I was just watching a video about the most successful yacht rock singer that no one has ever heard of, even though you've heard a lot of his songs. He was featured on the Professor of Rock, I believe. He had 8 hits in the 70s and 80s, but I'd never heard of him before I watched that video, probably because he didn't like touring and rarely performed anywhere but in the studio.

Some of you may have heard of Paul Davis, but he was new to me, even though I know a lot of his songs. According to the video I watched, he was more of a songwriter and preferred that to actually performing, but he had a voice for singing yacht rock, which wasn't called that back then.

Some of his hits included Cool Night, I Go Crazy, Sweet Life and 65 Love Affair. He also crossed over into country and had two hits as a guest vocalist on songs by Marie Osmond and Tanya Tucker. His biggest hit, country or rock, reaching No. 4 in the U.S. in the adult contemporary category, was Ride 'Em Cowboy, which I'd never heard of before.

Paul Davis is a Yacht Rock god and it's not up for debate!

This may date me, but looking at the credits reminds me of the scene in “The Warriors” where the eponymous gang meets the Orphans.

How could this be a big documentary if Pablo Cruise wasn’t there?

I read a book by Fagen a number of years ago. He's a curmudgeon for sure.

All he had to do is change 16 to 18 and, while still high on the ick factor, it would've been more acceptable

RIP Benny. Man sang the ever living **** out of this song
Winger likes them to be 17

I don't mind sirius XM Yacht Rock..... BUT... they are very repetitive. They play WAY TOO MUCH Steely Dan and Christopher Cross. They need a deeper playlist.

I beg to differ. Michael McDonald single-handedly ruined one of the best bands of the 70s, the Doobie Brothers, turning them into balladeers instead of the classic rockers they were meant to be.
I did prefer the Doobie Brothers before MM. With that said, they were dying when he came along and saved them.

Yeah, I'm not sure this how this recent thing called Yacht Rock is different than what we used to call soft rock. As a genre, it's not my cup of tea (I doubt I could listen to a Yacht Rock channel for long) But that's not to say there isn't some good music there, like this one, from 1968 (that won't be on anyone's satellite radio).
