People tend to forget or don't remember that the SEC was once nationally significant Alabama (Bryant Era) and a bunch of regional teams in Football and nationally significant Kentucky (Rupp Era) and a bunch of regional teams in MBB. When any team besides Alabama won the SEC in Football or anybody besides Kentucky won the SEC in MBB, the winner was someone looked down upon because Alabama and / or Kentucky were "Down".
It took a long, long time and a bunch of good players and athletes to change that perception in both sports. So, while it is totally anoying now, it was important at one time for SEC programs to root for the others to have success at the national level. The proof is in the pudding with both Football and MBB having multiple shools besides Alabama in Football and Kentucky in MBB winning National Championships in the post-Bryant and post-Rupp Eras.
Point is, I root for Big XII teams besides Iowa State to succeed at the National level which will ultimately lift all programs and more importantly the conference to become more NATIONALLY relevant. Doesn't ever mean I want those programs to beat Iowa State, and I obviously love a crushing Kansas MBB loss every now and then.
