Hollywood is sooo out of ideas.

I don’t think they’re out of ideas, I think they’re just unwilling to fund a lot of them. I want to say a couple years ago, I either read something or watched a video on YouTube to the effect that movie theaters are moving away from many movies that have smaller profits to fewer movies with large profits. Looking back at it, If I can remember, going to a movie theatre and seeing 10-15 movies to choose from at any time. Today, it’s probably less than 10.

I think this has been a narrative for Hollywood for much longer than that.

If it's not remakes it's still same themes or general storylines.
But they don't run short of ideas on expressing their political/health etc on ideas on how to run our lives as everyday regular people now do they?? haha You know, since we all live like them!

It's a shame what has happened to the current state of comedy movie genre. It's basically DOA right now.
It's because they're more worried about providing appeal to the inclusion effect and/or not offending anyone. So, instead of making classic knee slappers, they went away from continuing to make great quotable classics. Sandler stopped making good ones because he wasn't an immature actor anymore and just wanted to go a different route, maybe being a dad turned him that direction. I believe Rogen said at one point he didn't want to touch (make) comedies in a certain way because the public was brutal. He said hollywood got away from making real comedies like superbad too.
I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be some innovative directors at the moment. Classics that stuck around like Hangover, Stepbrothers, Superbad, etc. Maybe Hollywood is missing some true comedic actors?

Good point actually. Theatres just don't fill like they used to, but how can they when movies cost $15? Then you add in anything else on the side to pay for and it's tough to take a family or go on a date to be cost effective.
There are occasionally some solid streamed movies that are good comedies, but those are lesser known and we haven't seen the ones that everyone constantly talks about.

Someone brought up Fast and Furious.

Vin Diesel said he would only do a final one (that will probably not be true but whatever) if they do two things.

It has to be in L. A. and cars have to be the feature.

They are bringing back dead for twelve years Brian(Paul Walker) by doing digital trickery using his two brothers.

So, not exactly swimming in new ideas.

It's not Hollywood's fault. They keep recycling crap because that's what people watch. Its hard to break through and make money with original IP.
And here we go. This is why Hollywood keeps making this stuff. Quit paying to see it and they'll stop, but as long as this stuff keeps making a billion dollars they will keep cranking them out.

The best thing I can say about it is that it's better than the last one, very low bar. Might as well just put a disclaimer at the beginning that says "we didn't really have any ideas for this one but we're making it anyways because $$$$".

I am glad I went though, I was entertained by how bad it was. Even my kids were making fun of it. The one scene I liked was the river chase, cool to finally see that part of the book make it to a movie.

The first movie is one of the best movies ever made. And then they massacred the franchise like Sonny from The Godfather

To each their own but imo this is quite a stretch.

It was a big deal because of the special effects (which is funny because they couldn't edit out the stage worker's hand in the kitchen scene (pictured)) but after the 'awe' of the entrance into the island/park it turned into a standard monster movie with kind of a loose ending.

2 and 3 weren't that far off and the rest have just been kind of CGI-fests.

Iconic scenes no doubt, though.

I saw it last Thursday night and I thought it was decent; not great, but IMO certainly better than the previous one (honestly, making big locusts the main threat in a movie about dinosaurs? Seriously?)

I'm sure they'll make a sequel to it, but I'm just not quite sure where they can take the story from here. I don't know how to do spoilers, so I won't write it here, but one of the plot points is about where the dinosaurs can live.

People like dinosaur movies.

CGI dinos and relatively mindless action works overseas. Well-written dramas and comedies, which are very culture-specific and language-heavy as opposed to visual, not so much.

I'm surprised only one super-franchise aims to give the people what they want.

Have any of the Jurassic Park movies been "good" since the first one? I haven't seen anything after world, but they have been pretty sub-par. I mean, there is a certain amount of dumb enjoyment you can get from people trying not to be eaten by dinosaurs, but the series after the first one is pretty much b-movie creature features with a big budget.
I was 13 when the original Jurassic Park was released. Sweet-spot age where I was old enough to see what felt like a very grown-up, scary movie at the time. By the time the second one came out, I was old enough to drive to the theater to see it with my friends, and to this day I remember all of us sitting in the theater and laughing out loud at the wrong times because of how bad we thought it was. I know Jurassic Park III is also inferior, but I still have a soft spot for it--I think because of the return of Sam Neill as well as the inclusion of William H. Macy. Jurassic World was terrible, and I haven't seen another one since, nor do I plan to.

The first Jurassic World is a decent summer popcorn type of movie IMO. It had some interesting ideas, I liked the setting being a successful park where the novelty of dinosaurs is wearing off and corporate greed is what eventually breaks it.

I quit going to these. There’s just nothing you can do with the plot. Every time it’s like people go in thinking they’re safe, dinosaurs get loose and start killing people. What else can the writers even do? I’m surprised they keep coming out with new ones. When the villains in the movie can’t talk and are just animals, you can’t really advance the plot. I’m surprised people keep going to see these.

It’s most comparable to Jaws.

A Spielberg master class original…then the sequels.

Pirates of the Caribbean was kind of like that for me. I know not everyone got into them, but they made 5 and I had fun with all of them.

I agree, I thought the first reboot was fairly entertaining, and I was interested to see what they could do with the idea with modern CGI. Saw most of the next one - boring and dumb. Caught a few of the third one and couldn't stand it after giving it some time. I actually thought the general premise of a new normal with dinos out in the wild could've been interesting, but that was an awful story.

I don't know, Jaws 3 might be the most ridiculous visual movie in history, and 4 might be the dumbest story ever put to paper in the history of mankind.

The worst Jurassic Park movie looks like a Cormac McCarthy novel compared to the 4th Jaws movie.
