Seriously do you think he throws 48 when he’s playing in the infield?
Well maybe on some plays he whips it across, but maybe once an inning, not 20-25 times an inning. I don't know what his pitch count was but it was more the 1.

Going 3rd to 1st base those guys are tossing it 70s pretty easy across the field
De La Cruz for the Reds has been clocked at 100 throwing to first. I think most big league infielders, when they air it out they can do 90 easy. But they usually have some body momentum towards first when they do it, not the same thing as pitching from a mound.

Baseball Savant tracks this.

Berti threw 71.5 MPH his rookie year playing primarily 2B. Has worked his way up to 80.2 through 2023. Has not played enough the last 2 years for a savant average. His hardest throw ever in a game was 85.0 mph.

Matt Shaw is averaging 82, with a max throw of 88.7 this year.

Also worth noting positioning is important. Berti grew up a 2B and overtime became a utility like Madrigal, so his arm won’t be his moneymaker. Nico being at SS was averaging mid-80s and now that Swanson is here, he’s averaging mid-70s. He averaged 85.3 in 2022. He hasn’t thrown above 85.0 this year or last year.

Ok here’s my thought for the morning. I know starter in the #1 priority and we need to get one sooner rather than later but if we can add one name today for me it’s Suarez. That guy gives us a lineup that no team in baseball can match.

According to BN the price would be considerably less than Caissie. That’s a no brainer. That leaves one hole in the offense. 1B v. Lefties. Here’s how I try to solve that. First Busch faces every lefty till the deadline. Second Shaw goes to Iowa and gets a crash course at first. If that turns out to be plausible he’s a nice bench piece for the rest of the year and a RH platoon for Busch. If he’s not you decide if Long or an 11th hour pickup are the better upgrade from Turner.
