One aspect of the Iowa State football program that has consistently seemed to lag behind—especially compared to other teams in the conference—is player speed.

Even during the Campbell era, this was a noticeable issue. However, more recently, coaches like Hank Poteat and Noah Pauley have raised the standard, emphasizing speed in the players they recruit.

Let’s take a look at the high school 100-meter dash times under 11.0s for some of our current players.

For reference:
  • Kene Nwangwu: 10.55s
  • Darien Porter: 10.69s
Current Players:
  • WR Brett Eskildsen: 10.52s
  • WR Dominic Overby: 10.54s
  • RB Aiden Flora: 10.61s
  • S Jeremiah Cooper: 10.65s
  • DB Connor Welsch: 10.66s
  • CB Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman: 10.71s
  • CB Mason Ellens: 10.73s
  • S Carson Van Dinter: 10.73s
  • CB David Coffey: 10.75s
  • WR Karon Brookins: 10.80s
  • LB Will Hawthorne: 10.82s
  • RB Abu Sama: 10.84s
  • RB Carson Hansen: 10.85s
Future Players
  • WR Jeffrey Roberts: 10.69s
  • S Tyrell Chatman: 10.78s
  • S Bryson Williams: 10.88s
Beni Ngoyi and Xavier Townsend never ran below 11.0s

Not exactly sure.
Nice!

I assume Manske>Moberly>Becht for QB speed?

A lot of NFL and B12 teams are utilizing running QBs lately.
Manske wasn’t a track guy I believe. At least didn’t run anytime Algona was at similar meets. I did see Limbaugh win the 100 at an Algona meet though.

Well, on the track maybe. Doesn't always translate perfectly. I guarantee Jaylin Noel was faster on the field than all those guys other than maybe Porter and Kene.

Footwork, foot speed, timing, hand skills, etc.
And sometimes someone is just a gamer in pads.

Honestly... I wish we had more CB's on this list. I really feel like your CB's need to be the fastest guys on the team.... at least the quickest anyway for sure.

I’m always of the mindset that if a WR doesn’t have a time faster than 10.90s, I don’t want him.

SOOOO many NFL guys ran between a 10.5 and 10.7 in high school, it’s kinda the archetype for today’s game.

(I believe Jaylin Noel would have ran in the 10.8s if not for COVID)

Wat? What makes you say that? He's our #2 QB right now likely, right?
It’s Rocco’s show the next two years and I think Manske is our next dude. Moberly is a great athlete but not sure he’s a big 12 qb. But former athletic qbs can make great wr.
