I'm from Carroll and grew up in Halbur for a few years so maybe thats why I think its just overpriced. The illegal stuff is still readily available. I 'know' someone who purchased about 20 bottles of it a year and a half ago for their 'business'. The only markings on the glass was a cheap printed sticker that said: "Greetings from Templeton" on it.
I know that it was purchased for much less than the commercial rye. I have drank plenty of both to know that its good but I also know that the illegal stuff is cheaper than the store sold version.
Yes, to me, those are cost added values to alcohol that can warrant a price that its set at. When its possibly easier to manufacture, isn't held to government standards, aged longer, shipped overseas, then I can see the reasoning behind that price its at.

My list of overpriced booze
Dom Perignon- Buy a bottle of Andre and try to hack up a little byle into the bottom of the glass before you pour, the taste is so close
Grey Goose- is no better than Smirnoff, and more than double the price. For martinis they're are many better, cheaper vodkas like Ketel One, Stoli and Voxx
Absolute- worse than Smirnoff but the same price as Stoli, only popular because of constant advertising. The Bud light of vodkas.
Bud Light and Rolling Rock- both crap, shouldn't drink these unless you're a teenager/ college kid who doesn't like the taste of beer but wants to get drunk. If that's the case just buy 40oz of Mickeys or OE save some money and get drunk faster, or just buy PBR, Old Style or Coors for better flavor and similar price.
Jose Cuervo- this tequila is garbage and no one seems to know it until you drink the good stuff. Patron is expensive but drink it at least once to know how good tequila can be, then go get Sauza silver for a decent tasting affordable alternative.
yep we have a bottle with "Greetings from Templeton" on it.
I also am curious. Is there some serious validity to this? It seems like it would be a bad business model to expand so much that you'd run out and go through a 3 year stretch of not having any. Some will wait it out, but others will look at different brands...
Again, I have spoke face to face with two liquor dept. heads of two different stores, both of whom I trust. Outside of a written statement from the distillery, I don't know what more I can do.
well I hope your full of crap because I do like the stuff, this is probably the only whisky I drink.
Im also much more of a beer and wine fan and not white wine

Sales have exceeded supply. A drought is now occurring. Find it, hold it, for it could be 3 years until you see more of it.
I have 2 bottles. I want more.
A man after my heart.
