I have been watching MLB since 1983. I have never seen a player who is worse than Swanson with a runner on 3rd base with less than 2 outs
I just asked Chat GPT and he’s not in the bottom 15 as far as lowest BA or most K’s with runners on 3rd and 2 outs this season. Players on that list do include Giancarlo Stanton, Matt Chapman, Javier Baez and Nick Castellanos. Your perception doesn’t exactly match reality.

2 outs or less than 2 outs? Not surprised that Baez is on the list. I asked ChatGPT same question and I didn’t get an answer. BTW, I never said he was the #1. I said I have never seen a player who strikes out more with a runner on 3rd base with less than 2 outs.

Less than 2 outs (my typo) and there are at least 15 players who have struck out more in that situation.

Also I actually share your frustration with Dansby and the way his ABs have gone in these situations. The thing is he’s an elite defensive SS with 16 HRs and a 2.8 WAR. He doesn’t have to be a perfect situational hitter to have great value. Also he’s admitted that he’s been bad with RISP it’s not like he doesn’t realize it.

A little over a month ago Swanson was hitting .160 with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. July was a good month, as he’s now hitting .280 in the same scenario. The .160 was noted after he mentioned in an interview he needs to figure his **** out.

The problem is that he has struck out 12 of his 29 (41%) of plate appearances. So he is either getting a hit or striking out 66% of the time.

So where he needs to improve is scoring those runs without having to get a hit.

Caissie just hit 109 right back through the pitcher
At what point does Caissie’s success just Ricketts and Hoyer believe they have license to not try to sign Tucker? I mean I don’t doubt that Caissie may have better “value” going forward according to Jed’s nerdy Ivy League formula.

I think he will a good player but not many players can replace Tucker.

Just don't see how Cubs ownership, front office or coaches can think they can replace an All-Star caliber player with a top prospect who has ZERO experience in the majors.

They might not sign Tucker, but I would hope they go after another proven OF and have a plan to get Caissie 150 AB's in Chicago in 2026. That way his path is similar to PCA where he can be a bottom of the order bat in 2026 and he's ready to be an everyday starter when Suzuki and Happ become FA's after next year.

Just because it seems some posters seem to think it’s Caissie OR Tucker…there are other ways to accommodate both. For example:

You can trade the final year of Suzuki (who wants to be in the field and would waive his NTC) and get a hell of a return. Caissie/MoBaller could then replace him and ideally you’d use that extra $$$ to buy pitching.

Honestly I think Caissie starts in the OF next year. To sign Tucker you need to replace veteran contracts with youth. If we sign him and tell Happ we’re committed to four other outfielders I think he waves that NTC.
