Pretty clear Castro's acquisition has afforded Counsell to give starting position players rest. Would be curious if Counsell feels some of the hitting issues stem from guys playing just about every day.

It would be one thing if a player is scorching hot, but seems to make sense to sit guys like Horner, Swanson, Happ, Tucker and Suzuki every 6-10 games so they are fresh for the stretch drive.

I’ve never understood the ‘rest’ needed by non catchers and pitchers. They are still showing up, going through the pregame workouts and routine, sitting on the bench, watching, and mentally staying in the game. Does actually playing take that much more energy and effort than that?

Brewers up 7-2. Cubs likely fall further behind.

Update definitely falling further after 3 run homer by Steer. Cubs have given up 16 homers since the break.

Yeah, offense sucks and bullpen blows another one. I’m still convinced by the time the series with the Brewers is done the division race will be over. Questioning whether the Cubs even make the playoffs at this point.
