    In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

I spoke to my daughter about the new steak house, in the Brick City Grill, she is friends with the large Realtor here in Ames daughter and for some reason the deal fell through. So the building is still vacant.

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

Ya, I will pass, don't want to look at that on the top of the windshield considering we only make the drive once a year or so. Must be cheaper if you have a tag. KC is kind of a hidden gem, lots to do, professional sports, close to and easy trip to central Iowa and the housing market is not...

If you like an old time ice cream place that serves a great tenderloin drive down to Goldies in Prairie City, great service, very fast and very good food. Takes about an hour from Ames if you drive east of Nevada and then down towards Colfax. Well worth the road trip.

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

Love that every 25 or 30 miles they have a place for gas and fast food, right in the middle. It's getting more expensive on the Kansas Turnpike that it used to be. 6 years ago or so it was about $12 dollars the entire one way from right outside the racetrack in KC to the Oklahoma border, now...

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

The more I see of the area visiting our son in SC, the more I like about it. Plenty of trees, the mountains, you can be at the beach in two or three hours from most places. Cost of living is low compared to many places, much like Iowa. The fall is just beautiful and they get snow from time to...

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

Rent in SD is going to cost you twice what it would in Ames or Des Moines, don't get me wrong its a beautiful area of the country and wonderful weather, but the cost of living is approaching Seattle and SF levels.

Lot of ISU grads in the Dallas and Houston areas, fewer but some in and around Austin. All have great Cy Clubs that get together for game watches at a local bar and set up ticket packages when ISU playing at Baylor, TCU or Houston. We have gone through them to get football tickets for away...

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

Yep, worst part of the Deep South, is at least some of them are still acting like they won the Civil War. Look you lost, it was not a War of Northern Aggression, but a war that you tried and planned to keep people enslaved. Spare me the noble Lost Cause BS, and take your loss and get over it...

    In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

We only ate there once after our granddaughters ball game and the service and time it took to get your food was very poor. Hard to make a final decision on a one time stop, but at least the night we were there it was unacceptable. The food was fine, but you should not have to wait 45 to an...

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

If you can afford housing, it's a little less than three times higher than in Ames, on average over 900K in SD while Ames is around 330K for the average home.

    In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

Lots of business for a good flower shop, wedding, funerals, holiday like Memorial Day and people needing flowers for birthdays and anniversaries. They had a great location right there on the corner of Duff and Lincoln Way, fairly easy to get in and out of. You can make a nice living running a...

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

My son and I sent to the Clemson/ND football game three years ago or so, he lives outside of Columbia, and the Clemson area of the state is really very pretty, lots of trees, small town area, like you said, a lot like Ames. I was surprised by the number of trees across the area as a whole the...

Ouch. Penn State 2027 Recruiting Decline?

You are always going to have a turnover or two, the last 3 years, the numbers have been about equal, but look at 2021, we had 4 TOs to their zero and lost 27 to 17, didn't play in 2020 because of Covid, but in 2019 we had 2 TO to there zero and lost 18 to 17, in 2018 loss by 10 lost turnover...

Ouch. Penn State 2027 Recruiting Decline?

His record vs EIU is about par for what the history of the games between the two schools have always been, about a 1 to 2 ratio wins to losses. We also forget that programs like Texas bottom out a few years ago when we were beating them.

Thinking about moving out of Iowa

Just a beautiful area of the county, lots of trees and the people are very cordial at least on the surface. We really like the Ashville area but we have not been there since the hurricane a few years ago and that did a lot of damage.
