    What's sad is that the farmers that actually grow and raise real food for my table...the CSA and farmer's market vegetable and fruit growers...the poultry, hog, and cattle producers that don't use confinement practices...don't get any subsidies or bailouts.

    You can use soap on your cast iron. Lodge, Smithey, Field Co...all say go ahead and use some soap. Back when soap contained lye it was not recommended. A chain mail scrubber or a scraper both work well to dislodge stuck on material.

    Non-stick fry pans...look at Green Pan Valencia line. Ceramic non-stick coating, not as non-stick as a traditional coating but pretty good. Cleans up nicely. Oven safe to 600 which is really nice if you do a lot of stove-top to oven cooking. Don't use cooking sprays on any non-stick pans. Can go...

    Big Grove-Des Moines

    We went to Big Grove in IC weekly for the first few years it was open. Rarely go any more. Still like the beer but the food has really gone down in quality. We've grown a bit tired of the vibe also. We really enjoy sitting and walking around outside at Alluvial when in Ames.
