*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Just landed in Chicago to hang out with some old ISU roommates and watch Shota take on a rookie tomorrow night. Hoping the rain holds off so we can fully enjoy our evening in Wrigley!

    Ankeny water ban

I have a neighbor with a fescue lawn that looks great in dry years. I definitely think that's the future. Kentucky Bluegrass is really a dumb choice for our climate in most years, assuming you'd prefer to have something that doesn't require watering.

    Vacation in the Black Hills

Enjoying nature comes with risks! When visiting these types of sites, I try to do limited research, including looking at photos. I truly love the first sight of some of our country's natural beauty. Rolling up to Devil's Tower for the first time with no real defined expectations was mind blowing.

    Vacation in the Black Hills

Do the hike around Devil's Tower. On your way around, it feels like you enter/exit about four different ecosystems. That site was one of my favorites, and we've done about everything mentioned in this thread. Breathtaking natural structure.

    Vacation in the Black Hills

I'm not gonna read through the whole thread to confirm, but with kids that age, check out the Hayride & Chuckwagon Cookout at Blue Bell Lodge in Custer. Kids will have an absolute blast.

    2025 Real Estate Assessment

Not always true. I contested in Ankeny several years ago. The board agreed and knocked it down 6.5% to what I recommended based on area sales. Two years later, the assessment dropped another fraction. Yes, I'm up 9-10% this year, but with the exception of one year in the 15ish we've lived here...

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

Already there. Three kids, four gallons of milk and a lot of produce each week. Aldi is about half what we were paying at Hy-Vee, and the quality of fruit is much better!

    2024-2025 MBB computer projections thread

Agree 100%. Oddly enough, I was on the opposite baseline, east end third row under the basket. Agree on the guards making a lot of super physical, tough, contested shots at the rim. I feel like Morgan State played with an admirable amount of physicality all game, being right on top of the...

    ***2025 NFL Season***

I would be genuinely shocked if that's not Eberflus' last game as a Bear.

    KU Arrowhead Tickets

Yeah, all the info I've received from KC Chiefs says parking has to be paid in advance. But I knew that because I wrongly assumed this would be a high stakes game and bought through ISU. Parking was $50.

Kicking’ It: Campbell mad at Flora?

Don't disagree. At the same time, I respect his motive within the context of an in-state rivalry. He wanted to obliterate ISU's relevance in this state. And to his credit, he was about as close to succeeding as you could reasonably get. ISU fans were an endangered species at the height of his...

    Best Advice You Ever got

My ilk! My dad always said "never do anything half assed." I tried to live it, and I used that quote in my very first interview for an internship as a college senior. Got the job and jump-started a happy career, thus far.

Hilton Coliseum set to have new video board this fall

I noticed in this photo that ribbon board that was mounted between the lower level and balcony is gone. I assume that's being replaced as well with this project?

I believe it's the Maccasin Bar that has the taxidermy of the world record muskie caught on the Flowage. One of my favorite places to fish.

Nostalgia for the 90's and 00's

The combination of new album releases and MTV music video debuts in the late 90s early 2000s was magic for music fans.

Turn the TV dial to channel 3, flip the switch box from TV to GAME, load the cartridge, power up the Atari console, make another run at it in Pitfall.

    Cytown Update

Bingo. Early in my career, I interviewed for a position with the City of Ames. Part of that half-day process included a van tour of the city with some current staff. I was shocked and honestly appalled by how much of that tour included bad-mouthing two of the city's largest employers (ISU and...

What game or event made you a Cyclone for life?

It was also a loss for me. 1997 NCAA tourney regional semifinal vs UCLA. Cam Dollar's shot over Kato to win it in OT. I was 16 years old and that crushed me. Grew up Cyclone, but I knew it was in my blood that day. Got my acceptance letter a couple years later.
