So, I think there are two ways canceling SDSU could be really brutal.. I don’t think either are very likely... but I think the one that’s more likely no one is talking about.

Scenario 1: Needed to get to 6 wins... I think this is unlikely, but is the one everyone is talking about. Not trying to be over confident... but there are absolutely 6 wins left on the schedule. Kansas, TT, Akron, Baylor, KSU (I know they will be better in game 12 then game 1, but we are more improved yr to yr then they are and should’ve beaten them last yr, plus it’s at home), and then there is at least 1 in iowa, texas, osu.

Scenario 2: probably not highly likely, but I think it’s more likely than the first, we finish the season with 9 wins without adding a make up game for SDSU... that would be brutal. First 10 win season ruined because we had to cancel our game vs. an fcs school.

If we're sitting at 9-2, we'll have a bowl game to get that 10th win. That still counts.
Might even have the conference title game as another opportunity.
This really won't matter if we're a 9+ win team.

Good week to remind that there's a certain fan base that would not count a bowl win as the 10th win, who did exactly that in many past seasons along with quantifying January Bowl as greatness.

My point is, if after bowl game, win or lose (and title game if we some how make it without getting 10 wins), we end up with 9 total wins on the season. If we go 8 - 3 for example, and win our bowl game (9 - 3, final record like the 2000 insight bowl team). We would likely have been 10 - 3 if we had been able to finish game 1.

And the 9 wins would still be there as our best season ever. Can't complain about that.

Yes, we will tie a mark that has been achieved by only a few ISU teams by getting to 9 wins. It’s a great year. No question. However, no ISU team has achieved 10 wins. Being the first would be special. Missing it by cancellation.... that would hurt.

1 team ever reached 9 wins. Doing it now means we beat teams that Mac never could, again. That makes 9 our best year ever.

If you complain at 9 wins, that's a you problem.

If we get 9 wins in the regular season I'll be OK without playing the SDSU game.

Missing the point man... not complaining about 9 wins.. it is a great year. Would likely be considered the best or one of the best in school history. Getting 10 wins is meaningful. Most/many teams look at getting double digit wins as a “successful” season. Something ISU has not done. It would be a lot of fun to do. If the only reason it doesn’t is due to the cancellation... I think you will be the only ISU fan not disappointed in that... happy with the season? Yes. But it would hurt to not have the first 10 win season ever.

I’m kind of expecting Jamie to manage a 12th game.

Who's most likely for the 10/20 open date? There's Northern Illinois, BYU, and about half dozen tougher D1 schools who most likely would have no interest. Don't know what D-1 cupcakes are out there with a bye that week.

No need to worry about a 10th win. Getting to 6 on the other hand..... wouldn’t that stink to not be bowl eligible because of a cancelled game.

Agree that Jamie will try to manage this. But not sure what his options will be... you need to find a team that is both willing and eligible to play the game. Since (obviously) we don’t know how the season will play out, I don’t think you schedule anything yet, just find out who is interested and at what cost for the week of the title game. Once determined if you are in / out of title game, book 12th game if it makes sense.. but again, don’t think it will be our option to play / not play. Things would have to work out to get one scheduled at this point.

You know the year before Campbell came here (2015) they had their first game cancelled.

All they did was turn around and beat a top 25 SEC team the next week and then beat a Big 12 school before rattling off an 8-0 start and finishing with 10 wins.

This team has all the parts to finish with 0 or 1 losses. I am not going to assume they lose until it happens this year.

Imagine if you bet big for ISU to hit the over on the season win total and didn't hit it because of a cancelled game

The way that the universe works says that we'll go 11-1, win the Big IIXII title game, but miss the playoff with either Alabama or OSU taking the fourth spot because "Iowa State didn't have that 13th data point"
