Just curious, how do you know that we have two left? In the first place, Sims and Spears could have been applied to the '08 class as early enrollees, and there may be someone unlikely to qualify (like Chase Harper a year ago). Then there's the fact that there's a total of eighty-five, which by my count means somebody's leaving besides Earnest Ferguson.

However many there are left, I hope we hold them for a really good late qualifier, or an early enrollee next January.

If no one worthy is available, hold the scholarship for some Senior walk-on who will graduate at the end of the fall semester. ie Rickey Thompson and Euseph Messiah last year.

How do you know that Chizik's staff didn't make inquiries last summer/fall to most 4 & 5 star recruits? It could just be the conversations went like this:

  • ISU: Son why don't you come to ISU, we can give you PT.
Recruit: PT's important but I can go to the Orange Bowl with Texas & their coaches really like my ability and say I could start in a couple years. In the mean time, I'll play on special teams & will go up against future NFL first round draft picks in practice everyday.
  • ISU: Son why don't you come to ISU, we can give you PT.
Recruit: How far is Iowa from Florida?
ISU: About 2000 miles.
Recruit:
Sorry, I'd really like my family to see my games so I'll go to Central Florida.
  • ISU: Son why don't you come to ISU, we can give you PT.
Recruit: Do I have to go to class?
ISU: Sure do & we have new scholastic center & great support staff!
Recruit: Sorry, not interested.... I just want to play football.

  • ISU: Son why don't you come to Iowa State, we can give you PT.
Recruit: WOW Coach!!! I've been waiting to hear from you, I always dreamed of being a Buckeye!
ISU: Sorry son, I'm not a coach from Ohio State, I said Iowa State. You know the Cyclone State, the tall corn state.
Recruit: Oh, Idaho State- I'm a big fan of McDonalds frys, but I'm holding out to hear from Coach Tressel.
The reality is if Paul Rhoads is going to build ISU into a solid FB program- it's going to with 2&3 star recruits that his coaches have developed.

I thought it was funny

I read that the coaches are limited to the number of contacts they can have. I assume they only have so many kids they can contact and cant just send out letter after letter and make phone call after phone call. I dont know the rules but I think that may be the problem after signing day. Does anyone else know anything about this.

I don't know why ISU doesn't go after higher profile recruits. (I know some of the people here don't care for the rating system but just bare with me for a little bit.) Why not go after a 4 star OL or RB that is thinking about USC and tell him "Why go sit behind 2 5star recruits and another 4 star when you can come to ISU and most likely play from the get go and be part of something special?" I think I'd be more interested in showcasing my talent my Freshman year right away as opposed to waiting 2 or 3 years before I could contribute on the field. I'm a little biased though towards ISU.

We did. We were in early on the trio for sanford*? FL this year. Then the big boys came along and we fell through, with two and had a tiny chance at Dye.

I wonder if coach rhoads wishes that he didn't tell Ryan Mosby to take a hike. We had him, and instead we go after 2 other guys (mars, marry) and we lose out on them. LB won't be getting improved in short run looks like.

This is true...I really think we have to go to bowl games to get these kids to come here. Iowa goes to bowl games. The backups get bowl rings, ipods, dvd players, etc....from the bowl game. They get a free vacation to Florida or Texas. We have to get to bowl games to compete for 4 star kids. We have to win half of our Big 12 games to get 4 star kids. Thats what it comes down to.

Terrell Pryor didn't sign with Ohio State until the end of March last year. So yea, there are sometimes guys that don't sign on signing day and are available. Maybe we will sign Terrell Pryor Jr.!:wideeyed:

this is news to me. i figured it was mosbys choice. that is too bad. the kid is a player. i watched him twice this season, once in the playoffs. the kid can fill a gap and hit like no LB i have ever seen. more than once a RB saw a cut back hole, went to it and found himself looking at the stars because ryan had just introduced himself to said "gap."

keep in mind. there is no reason to waste 2 schollies after signing day unless its a really good get. we can band those schollies for next year, which will probably be a good thing because i cant wait to see what Rhoads can do with a full recruiting year

With our bare cupboard, we need to fill these two in the next two months. Need d line people.

ISU has 2 scholarships left. I've often wondered this, but there are still a lot of high profile recruits out there that haven't signed or still don't know where to go. Why wouldn't a coach like PR maybe just give them a call and give them a sales pitch? Wouldn't it make sense? Worst case scenario the recruit says no and hangs up. That still leaves us with an open scholarship. I hope PR takes some time and gives some people a call and gives them his sales pitch and maybe brings in a surprise or two since we have 2 open scholarships as of right now.
i know we dont need a QB, but this kid is more of an ATH than a QB. but, case in point, there are still some gems out there..
I played against this kid in HS, his team beat mine by a PAT in the playoffs, he is just a ridiculous athlete. IL 110 hurdle record holder, cannon, and mighty elusive. he just made me look stupid a few times (i was playing MLB). His highlight tape is 10 minutes long, and he is the #1 Juco QB in the nation. he could play receiver or DB, and was getting recruited out of HS by Iowa as a RB.

If we bring in a couple of mid-year juco transfers next December, can they use schollies from this class?
