Wow.

I remember feeling before the season that I would have been happy with 10 overall wins, as long as the team showed progress throughout the season. Once we lost Hinson and Foster I revised that down to 8 total wins, as I thought losing those two guys really would have had a bigger impact than it has.

I think Adams will probably get Big 12 Coach of the Year, and that might even be deserved. I would hope at the very least that TJ gets 2nd.

I think Lloyd down at Arizona will probably get National Coach of the Year, and that's okay too. But I really hope that TJ gets some national run for what he, his staff, and this team have done so far.

Awards aside, with the exception of the Elite Eight year back in 2000 under Larry Eustachy, I think this has to be the best single season coaching performance in program history.

I give him a ton of credit for pulling us out of the nosedive of early to mid February. We looked cooked. And while an NCAA bid was a pipe dream in October, to have had that hot start and come so close only to lose it in February would have been a big disappointment full of "what if"s. Clearly the schedule played a role both in how bad we looked then and how much better we look now, but you've still got to win the games.

Lord knows I was pretty critical of the hire (can't blame anyone if they were annoyed by me) but I'm so pleased with the way the team/staff has responded of late. I do think TJ has some growing to do (refs obviously don't care about the nice guy thing), but the team I've watched the past few games is so different to the one we saw for a few weeks prior. Cannot complain about this year and am very impressed with how they've handled adversity. From the entire offense moving way better, to making adjustments in the rotation, I'm really pleased. I do think the staff will have to do some work in the transfer window to keep trending upwards, especially if Brockington decides to go pro, but I'm seeing the vision a lot more than I was a few weeks ago. Seeing the way they've bounced back gives me a lot of hope moving forward.

He made sone nice adjustments since the loss at West Virginia. I do think he has shown some ability to be self reflective, which is all I care about really, just get better. I was really worried up until tgen, but he did several adjustments that were needed. Now it took way too long but he still made them. Now he has a long long ways to go, but I am hopeful his recruiting can fill in some lack of creativity. I doubt he is ever going to be a good offensive mind, and long term I do worry about the heavy defensive first philosophy for Iowa state and what kind of recruits that leads to longer term, but he really has done a great job to get us competitive. And man it is good to see.

TJ snapped them out of their funk, got them going to the hoop more and has been able to gain them confidence the last couple weeks. He deserves a ton of credit pulling the season out of the fire the way he did.

I was right there with you at 8.

I will never understand coaches absolutely snapping and yelling at refs. Refs are not scared of coaches, if they are, they shouldn't be refs. TJ talks with them throughout the game and focuses on what his team is doing, not the refs. He doesn't want his players ******** at the refs and players, many times, follow their coaches. Keep grinding and focus on what you're doing to win the game.

If you're an experienced coach, working the refs absolutely works. Self is constantly criticizing and cursing at the refs. He is relentless. He just isn't overly animated.

It has to be calculated but also warranted. Refs know when they've missed a call and will fold to guys like Self. For TJ, he's new to the league. It's probably not a great idea to act like Weber, who is an absolute buffoon. But he'll need to develop an edge eventually.

You point things out to the ref to make sure they are aware of it. I feel like people act like refs aren't trying to follow the rules. The thing is, different refs have different tolerances. What they deem a foul vs not. If a ref is making a call because a coach is complaining to them, then they are a bad ref. They are there to enforce the rules of the game, not cater to the coaches feelings.

Oh we definitely have bad refs. Won't disagree on that. But I still don't wanna see TJ constantly work them. It's why we're in the position we are. Focus on what you can control.

'But they didn't get a 3 seed!!!!'

It also looks like he's talking to them a fair enough amount.

People looking for a Tim Floyd 'coat coming off' moment every game need to take a step back.

I love the fact that we are closing strong. Offensively we are not as offensive that we once were. I know the schedule has lightened up, but winning close games has been great to see.

That is one veiny eggplant...

Aren't we something like +18 on our win total from last year? What is the record for turnaround in one year again?
It's 19 if you include a team's wins over non d1 competition. If you only include d1 and non vacated wins, we are tied. (Ohio State had their wins vacated, and Murray State had 4 wins against non d1 teams).

It's also the 7th biggest turnaround all time for win percentage, and the best power 5 turnaround percentagewise ever!

TJ is hands down big 12 coach of the year. Adams has 4... that's right, 4 six year seniors on that team. They are older than some NBA teams.

Taking a two win team, losing what production you did have, cobbling together a roster of cast offs and winning twenty games while playing in the nation’s hardest conference is as impressive of coaching job as you can do.

I'm not sure castoffs is the right word to describe the guys that transferred in.
