Yup thanks. Sorry about that. I was doing it from my phone and it worked for me. Anyways Elgin is going to have some monster dunks while he is here. Cant wait

Damn. You can definitely label him as a high flyer. Guys like this and Sledge will really excite Hilton again.

For Tyrus McGee, through 10 games, his stats are:

FG%: 62 of 133 = 46.6%
FG%(3pt): 29 of 67 = 43%
FT% 29 of 36 = 80.5%
AST: 2.8/ game
REB: 5.5/ game
STL: 2.2/ game
TO: 3.4/ game

I will be interested to see where his Assists go next year when he has other highly capable scoring options around him... assuming he is our likely starting PG.

I like his shooting percentages for the most part, and the 5.5 rebounds/game is nice. The assist/turnover ratio will NEED to improve, but we don't know how much that is on him and how much of it is on his team.

With BuBu showing he can handle Big 12 competition, it seems we could redshirt Sledge or McGee, or both.

I think most likely to redshirt are McKnight, Railey, and Cook. MAYBE one of Sledge or Odunsi, but I doubt they are bringing in McGee to redshirt.

Remember though, we'll be losing 2 probable starters next year in Allen and Scotty, and maybe 3 depending on White. We'll need to be developing some depth and getting the younger guys experience for the future.

HardcoreClone- True, and I also doubt McGee would be redshirted. But we'll have 4 guards going into next year not counting McGee and Sledge, unless Babb will be competing at the 3 spot. Fred will have a lot of options and it will be fun to see how all the competition shakes out.

The problem you have for redshirting is you are eating up scholarships in outyears. If you are upgrading your team each year, will these redshirt types be used?

That is a very good point, definitely why Fred is getting paid the big bucks to make those decisions. In this day and age of transfers it is difficult to keep a full roster of scholarship players, especially at the Big 12 level where everyone wants to play.

I kind of wonder about McKnight. He just seems so raw, maybe it would not be worth it to have him another year? On the other hand, I want our program to get to the point where instead of having to throw in younger guys out of need, we have upperclassmen-laden teams who have continued to develop and gained invaluable game experience. If you aren't competing for Top 25/50 recruits, then you have to develop your program with current players and hope by their Jr/Sr years they are very dependable and can always win the close/toss-up games to get to the tourney.

Just for perspective (I don't know the answer), how many MBB players have redshirted during the past 10 years. How many for development reasons, not injury recovery (such as JVB last year; one injury, or several nagging ones, don't recall?)

In MBB, with a 13 scholarship limit, if your program is up and coming, which means each year generally you're recruiting over the previoius years' classes, you want a four-year flow so that there is continually room for better and better student-athletes. Correct?

Bottom line, the kid is the "decider" about whether or not he will redshirt, I understand.

Guess I'd be surprised if anyone on next year's team redshirts. With all the transfer upperclassmen, the rookies will need whatever PT they can get to develop. But, then, I'm a distant observer of the program, and my understandings might be upside down.

While of course reasons can arise to do so, redshirting in BB is not that desirable. I think people see it as a hoarding of talent type of thing when actually it can work against you.
Get the best talent you can and put it on the floor. Everything shakes out with true , open competition for playing time.

I hope Fred isn't afraid to cut the rotation to 8 or 9 at the most. He's done a good job this year of keeping the best players on the floor even if that means they are playing 34+ minutes.

For Tyrus McGee, through 19 games, his stats are:

FG%: 130 of 264 = 49.2%
FG%(3pt): 60 of 124 = 48.4%
FT% 66 of 79 = 83.5%
AST: 3.2/ game
REB: 5.5/ game
STL: 2.2/ game
TO: 2.7/ game

I will be interested to see where his Assists go next year when he has other highly capable scoring options around him... assuming he is our likely starting PG.

Combined Season Stats
We'll have three very good shooters next year with him,Scotty, and Babb. That means that it will be almost impossible to double our posts, which means Royce White is going to be able to go mano-a-mano with whoever is guarding him.

Here nor there
McGee is up to 50% on three pointers (66-132).

"McGee scored 18 of his game-high 30 points in the first half as Cowley built an insurmountable 23-point (49-26) halftime lead. McGee went 6-of-8 from three-point range and is now shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc (66-of-132), while averaging 20.8 points per game."

We will not be redshirting McGee period.
If it goes south (which I doubt since this is one that Freddie wanted and not just had to have like first class) then he will be treated the same as the juco PG we had this year. Cannot hold up the growth of the program (schollie depth) for a juco

i think we should redshirt royce white. by all indications, he's really been improving this year, and he didn't play last year. just imagine how good he'll be if he takes a third season off.

The last time I looked, we will need help in the middle.

Good update here on Tavon,

All Eyes On Hills West's Tavon Sledge - Dix Hills, NY Patch

Sledge, who has run the point for most of his basketball career, recently switched to shooting guard while teammate Rollino took over the point after a two-game losing streak. Since the switch, Hills West is 3-0 in league play with one loss to Lincoln High, one of the best teams in the state. Sledge scored 35 points in his first game as a two-guard against Bellport.

We don't need a two-guard.

You will in two years. How much eligibility do you think Allen has? I will take a combo guard. I suppose we should tell McGee to go elsewhere too, as he looks more like a SG in his games. Jeez, give the staff some faith until they give you reason not to.
