Wonder if A's fans now regret destroying the chemistry and offense in their roster trying to put a rotation together that is capable of beating the Tigers in the playoffs. At the trade deadline they were the best team in baseball, now they were the last team to clinch a playoff spot and it took till the last day to do so. They may or may not have the best pitching in baseball, but for the A's to have any chance to win on any given night they have to pitch like the best because what little offense they had before simply isn't there anymore.

I think most fans that watched almost every game this season of the Athletic's knew it was a bad trade. It was unfortunate. I am a huge A's fan there is but the biggest issue is - what are we doing letting teams like Oakland, Detroit, and Kansas City even have a chance at being World Champions. The World Series is no longer about this year's best teams from each league anymore. Clearly the two best teams in the AL after 162 games are LA and Baltimore. 162 games ought to be enough to sort out our league's best - we don't need to invite 1/3 of League to "make sure."
I'll still cheer for the A's under this system. But I've said since 1995 that the Wild Card is garbage and I want to point that out again even when it is my team that benefits. Respect the season.

I'll throw in that interleague is garbage too.

If I was the commissioner I would do away with the divisions. There would be the National and American league teams who would only play teams in their league

At the end of the season the top 2 teams in each league would meet in the league championship

Divisions are junk and the playoffs are bloated.

Glad they squeeked in but I'm expecting nothing from them against KC. I think the tank is just empty.

If you are serious- I agree. That is how the World Series was born. It was a 9 game series. Money won't allow for that, but I think there are ways to extend the revenue AND maintain the integrity of a grueling season.

Can't be too excited about the A's prospects going into the game Tuesday with the way they finished off the year.
I do like the fact Lester is pitching and they no longer have any expectations and can play loose. KC really hasn't experienced post season baseball yet (other than Shields), should be a fun game. If the squad gets past KC they still have great pitching so a little momentum from two elimination type wins could swing things back to their favor. Wouldn't be the first time a cold club backs into the playoff and makes a run.

And if Oakland loses I can turn my full attention to MBB (w/media day Wednesday) and Football. So there is major silver lining.

Reddick appears to be the guy for our offense right now. If we can get guys on board before him - it could end well. Donaldson is in pain but is also another guy that I want up with runners in scoring position. Early in the season, there was the feeling that anyone could come through (because they did). Down a run or two in the sixth or seventh? There was no doubt they could provide some excitement and come back.

At the time of the trade (July 31) we had a run differential of 162. After losing a vast majority of the remainder of their games they finished with 157 and STILL tops in the Majors. That's how good these guys were before the trade.

Lester>Cespedes, period. Unfortunately, injuries> chemistry. Fortunately, the reset button was punched yesterday. Go A's!!

They played well tonight and it was a great game. It was a fun but frustrating season. Sad to see it end. Has football season started yet though? Oh yeah, that's right, I think I remember the Cyclones winning a game 20-17 earlier this month.

Meme waiting to happen.

"Creates pitching staff to beat the Tigers in the playoffs/Doesn't last long enough to play the Tigers in the playoffs."

I have nothing to gripe about. KC played great and deserved that victory. Oakland had some fight in them and just couldn't catch a break at the end of the game. I have to admit I was a little ****** about that lucky slow bouncing hit to tie the game in the bottom of the 12th.
