I agree 100% with what returns to have hope for next season. Yeah, we're playing young because of injuries, attrition, etc. ISU doesn't recruit well enough to play this young. For those that say we don't have staff that coaches players up just don't give credit to only having some of these guys for less than a year. Yes, the reason they are playing is the coaches fault, but I also see it as a positive that a lot of these younger guys are better athletes than the upper classmen and that tells me there is a future. Losing any of our defensive staff would be awful I think. Look at how Mangino, even with a simplified gameplan and a coach that has done it everywhere, it has taken a long time to fix the past. Wally coaches the LBs and we have seen some really good growth from guys that have been in the system until they are the right size. Yes, he got a gift in Klein and Knott, but he also coached the hell out of Jesse Smith, Jevohn Miller, and I believe we'll see that growth from the others.

I see people noting "defense must improve next year" and such - which is absolutely true.

But fact is, most of the season, it has been the offense letting this team down. Over and over and over again.

Nearly a decade full of horrific offense from ISU stemming back to 2006. And those '04/'05 offenses were good, but propped up by excellent defensive play.

TIRED of all the endless hype for offense and no production. OL and WR letting this program down far more than any other unit on the field, defense and special teams included.

We have one of the 5 worst defenses in the country, but yet it's the offense's fault? I get that the offense is bad, but the defense is historically terrible.

If our young OL can get a year bigger and stronger, build on the progress and run blocking this year, this Offense may start working. Some turnover will be a good thing. Sam is going to have to step up and be a leader. We are going to need a QB that can make plays both with his arm and his feet. You have to temper your expectations when you have the same players going out there. I think the younger RB's we saw had some jump and really ran hard.

On the Defense we have to hope our young secondary takes it on themselves to become playmakers and veterans. Our young DL should be better, but we need help. Our Juco MLB that is redshirting needs to be a difference maker.

Did ya review the thread about slow starts and the pathetic number of 3 and outs this offense has started games with?

I am not denying the defense is bad. But they have also kept ISU in some games this year and the offense just gave them a big middle finger as they walked off the field after yet another 3 and out or very short "drive".

Way up there
I've been saying this for a while. Would love to see DM bulk up a bit and play TE after Bibbs graduates. Probably his best shot at making it to the next level also.

There is absolutely nothing about Bibb's game that even remotely resembles a TE except for where he's listed on the program. All but 1 TD he scored this year, he lined up as a WR. Any player could have been in his place, Mangino just ran the play for Bibbs bc of the mismatch he provides. Montgomery or Lazard WILL replace Bibbs's role on the team next but not his position. In our offense there's no difference between the plays we run for TE vs the plays we run for WR's. No position changes or weight gain need to take place.
