My wife got tickets to the game vs. Detroit....
Right now they have 65 wins with 37 games to play. How many do you think it will take to get that wild card spot? Would a 20-17 finish/85 wins do it?

85 wins should do it, and after last year that would be quite an accomplishment.
Have fun at the Tiger game. Hopefully you get to see Berrios pitch.

My wife got tickets to the game vs. Detroit the last Saturday of the season for me as a gift. Fingers crossed that game still means something. Or maybe the wild card is already clinched so its a chance to rest the starters! One game at a time boys....

That seems a little low but I don't see any of the teams in the wild card race getting super hot to really pull away. I guess the Royals could if Gordon figures it out and they get a little better starting pitching.

Baseball is such a fickle game. I'd like to say that more than 85 games will be needed, but you're probably about spot on. There's no reason to think that teams hovering around the .520/.530 mark all season are going to go on hot streaks all of a sudden.

That being said, the Angels are 14-6 in August and hitting their stride at the right time. Perez is back in KC and made an impact in last night's game against the Rockies. The Royals are a team that could go 3-7 and then rattle off a couple 8-2 weeks in a row.

I keep looking at how we could win the division, but after examining the remaining schedule, I don't see us catching Cleveland. After they finish up this current series with the Red Sox, they don't play anyone with a better record than them for the remainder of the year. They have to go to NY, but the Indians have been hitting really well as of late. Maybe they'll pull a Detroit on us!

I agree it seems low but the Twins would have to play .540 baseball to win 20 of the last 37. That's higher than they have been all year. And for the Royals to over take them they would have tow in 22 of 37 (.594) which seems like a lot to ask.

Schedule sets up well with lots of sub .500 teams on it. Just keep winning!

My 16 year old son is hoping for Big Sexy....he's also waiting anxiously for the Colon jersey he bought to arrive.

If they get to 85 wins, regardless of whether they make the playoffs or not, they better re-up Molitor. He's earned it. The lineup he trots out there isn't exactly the '27 Yankees and yet this is two out of his three seasons they have exceeded expectations.

Agreed about Molitor. Also, somehow he managed to figure out a workable bullpen out of that monstrosity the first half of the year, even after having the best pitcher traded away.

It's hilarious, no more than 3 weeks ago KFAN was getting bombarded with callers drilling Mark Rosen for saying that Paul Molitor should not be fired after the season. LOL

No matter what happens the Twins have been fun this year. I thought they were dead for s while there, but they've managed to win.

They've got a shot!

Gotta keep winning series. 4-5 teams on our heels.

Despite the successful August, losing 3 out of 5 to the White Sox sucked a little. We need to take care of teams that we should beat. We have a fair amount of games against KC and Detroit in September and need to take advantage of it.

It's already been a successful season in my book, but it would be nice to give these young guys a taste of the postseason so they can come back after it again next year. There are some good pieces in place, but it would be great to find a good third option for the mound. Colon is clearly a stop-gap and is 78 years old. Gibson has decent stuff and has had a couple decent outings, but he allows so many base runners. Gee is never gonna be more than a 4th or 5th option.

That made me laugh out loud. Thanks!

Agree about the pitching, GIbson is like a hot girl that keeps getting you all hot and bothered, and then........leaves.

Berrios putting a clinic on tonight. Barring a disaster, looks like another W for the good guys.

However, Orioles are on a 7 game winning streak. Getting this wild card won't be easy.

The reward for winning a wild card spot is... a trip to Yankee stadium. Where they've gone 2-12 in 4 of last 5 playoff series, including 0-6 in last 6.

But yes, it'll be good to have postseason play again. I still remember September 2009, the most exciting month in twins regular season history...

Whoa, sorry for going down memory lane here.

Yankees are far from a lock to get to host the WC game...we have the Red Sox next for 4 games and then have 3 @ Baltimore. Lose both series and the Yankees are on the outside looking in.

Twins pulled within a game of the Yankmes' wildcard spot tonight and they have Boston and Baltimore coming up while the Twins face the Royals and Rays after we get done with the Sox. A week from now, the Yankmes could be in the Twins' spot, fighting to stay ahead of the race for that last wildcard spot and we could be in the Yankmes' present spot.

Twins were down 4-3 in the 9th and have tied it up! bases loaded with 2 outs. Getting a walk-off here would be huge and would keep the momentum going.

EDIT: And we have a hit by pitch walk off win!! I'll take it.
