March Matness is upon us! ISU has (most likely) one wrestler at NCAAs this year in Jarrett Degen at 149 pounds. He is unseeded and will open up the tournament against #13 seeded Colton McCrystal of Nebraska

Marcus Harrington was the "first man out" of the Heavyweight bracket and that means he's the designated alternate at that weight. If anyone has to withdraw prior to weigh ins tommorow morning he will slot in to their spot. It is unlikely that'll happen at this point but the possibility is still there.

Full brackets:

Schedule:
Thursday
  • 11AM: Pigtails and Round 1 (ESPNU)
  • 6PM: Consolation Pigtails, Championship Round 2, Consolation Round 1 (ESPN)

Friday
  • 10AM: Quarterfinals, Consolation Round 2, Consolation Round 3 (ESPNU)
  • 7PM: Semifinals, Consolation Round 4, Round of 12 (ESPN)

Saturday
  • 10AM: Consolation Semifinals, 3rd, 5th, & 7th Place matches (ESPNU)
  • 7PM: Finals (ESPN2)
All matches, All mats will be on WatchESPN in addition to the broadcast channels noted above.

Degen got a really good draw. McCrystal isn't a big points scorer so should be a decent matchup. And if he loses he'll fall to a consolation match against the worst guy in the bracket (an unranked guy from the SoCon). If he wrestles as he did during the regular season he'll go 1-2 and match last year's scoring total of 1 point (via a MD in the consolations). But given his draw he'd only need to make a small step forward to get over the hump and win a couple more matches. His path to AA doesn't include any elite guys. If he has a good tournament he could make something happen.

Was Soloman the heavyweight with the concussion? So pretending he couldn't wrestle and Harrington took over that slot what does it look like for him?

I followed everyone that I could find related to Pitt Wrestling on Twitter and I haven't seen anything to indicate Solomon won't be good to go.

Timing question: do they just start at 11:00 at 125 and then go up through the weight classes on available mats? I'd like to watch Degen but don't have time for much else today.

No, they do the pigtails and then right to first round. First round matches with Pigtail matches get wrestled once they get the time wait done, iirc

Correct.

Session I, which includes pigtails and first round competition, starts at 11:00 AM CT.

Session II, which includes Preliminaries (wrestle-back prelims as needed), Wrestle-back First Round; followed by Championship Round, Second round, Consolation round, starts at 6:00 PM CT.

Once these things get started, with 8 mats going at once, they fly through. I would peg Degen to be somewhere around 1:00, maybe? Sound about right, or nah?
