Bryant doesn't want to go there, and I'm pretty sure he's not a guy they want in their locker room, either. He's lost a step too.

Gutekunst will go after defensive help first and foremost - really hope he trades up for Chubb or Ward, but that might be a real reach. Fitzpatrick might be a step in and start guy at corner. Davenport is tantalizing, but he has a lot to learn and they need help NOW. Gonna be fun tonight, whatever happens.

Fitzpatrick will be an interesting pick for whoever gets him. I think he's mostly been projected at safety at the next level, but at Bama he played all over the secondary. Very versatile guy. Same for Derwin James out of Florida State, a Kam Chancellor type who might still be on the board when Green Bay comes up. He's a safety but he can play in the box as a de facto linebacker and still run with tight ends and receivers in coverage.

Either of those guys would be great chess pieces for any defense.

Someone (not Kiper, a respected NFL personnel guy) said the only 2 defensive players in this draft worth trading up for are James and Roquan Smith, the Georgia linebacker. Bob McGinn agreed with Fitzpatrick's versatility, but he also said if a team wanted to plug him in on the outside, he'd be a Day 1 starter.

Yeah, I can see that. For defense I also like Tremaine Edmunds out of VT. For a team willing to develop him and bring him along slowly he's going to be a beast. A 19 year old 6'5, 250 lb LB that ran a 4.5 40 at the combine? Hell, yes.

I feel like this is the first year in a while when the first pick wasn't definitely known before hand. At least publicly.

Think the Mayfield to the Browns talk is legit or just a smoke screen?

I can't wait to see what moves Rick Spielman makes for the Vikings.

I think it's gotta be a smoke screen. Drum up interest in Mayfield in hopes someone trades up to number 4 to take him. Get a bigger haul for Cleveland, maybe another top pick next year.

Mayfield is talented, but he's a slower version of Russel Wilson at best. Much more prototypical QBs available at #1 overall. Smart move is for Browns to take Darnold or if they like Allen's potential more, take him. Then let everyone else figure IF Rosen and Mayfield have what it takes.

Of course the Browns haven't made many smart moves the past several years, so we'll see what happens.

What are you thinking the Vikes will go for? More defensive help? Bring in some guys to soften the blow if they can't resign all the current defensive stars?

Best Player Available? Maybe some O-Line help?

Smoke. I think Darnold is the pick at 1. I've got the top ten as:

1. CLE - Darnold
2. NYG - Barkley
3. NYJ - Mayfield
4. CLE - Chubb
5. DEN - Ward
6. BUF (from Indy) - Allen
7. TB - Derwin James
8. CHI - Nelson
9. SF - Fitzpatrick
10. OAK - Smith

Can't wait to see how spectacularly wrong this is. It might go up in flames even faster than my March Madness bracket.

Unfortunately for him, I don't think enough NFL front offices really want to give Jackson a chance at QB, which is unfortunate because he can throw the dang ball. Enough guys asked him about switching positions that it seems likely he'll get pushed that direction if he's not an immediate success at QB.

Rosens attitude has gotten a lot of attention. We'll see how it works out I guess.

Baker has had to work more for it, but he's a hothead and it will be interesting to see how he handles adversity in the NFL.
Agree, I think the Mayfield and Manziel comparison is completely off. Both are douches, but for completely opposite reasons. Manziel was a spoiled little brat that was horribly entitled. Some interviews with his Dad shed some light on that. Mayfield is out to prove the world wrong and rub everybody's face in it if they ever doubted him. I don't like Mayfield, but I respect what he's had to do to earn what he's achieved.
I wouldn't take him before Darnold or Rosen, but I'd take him before the rest.

Darnold seems like the smart pick. Allen could be great, but he could also be a big flame out.

With all the talk about 4 QBs going in the top 5 picks it would be interesting to see it play out as you have it. But teams will probably reach for QBs as usual.

I'm ok with that because it would mean better players falling to the Steelers hopefully.

Yeah, it's a great draft for teams that have a QB. Lots of talent getting pushed down the board.

Mayfield has a chance if he ends up with the right team. The Browns were a terrible spot for Manziel to land and it blew up right on cue.

Mayfield could flourish if he has a team around him. It would be interesting to see what he could do in Denver. A few more years with a defense behind him.

As a 49ers fan, I approve of this happening. Give me Minkah, or Roquan Smith.

I am 100% in the Darnold camp. Rosen's concussion history worries me.

Mayock had them taking Will Hernadez in his mock draft show. I'd like that pick if Gwynn isn't still on the board. The Vikes are predicted to go either go OL or CB.

We'll see. I kind of wonder if the Niners want to move down but they may not have anybody willing to move up. Maybe the Cards at 15 want to leapfrog the Dolphins at 11 for a QB, but I don't imagine the Niners would be too excited about helping a division rival get ther QB of the future.
