They usually do a "Meet the Coaches" night at Cowles Commons in Des Moines before the season starts. Looking forward to hitting that.

I've been to a couple of the noon stops but never an evening one. Might hit Clear Lake tomorrow night. Do they have vendors or other food at them? Just need to figure out when we'll feed and water the kids.

Never been to an evening, but food is available at the noon ones so I assume there is?

When they started this they did a stop in the Twin Cities a few years. The first year it was at Canterbury but we had severe thunderstorms and even a tornado (yeah, I see the humor, too) sighting or two - terrible turnout. The next year they had it at Nicollet Island Park and it was cloudy and about 38 degrees. Maybe a hair better turnout but not much. Not surprisingly, they didn't include the Twin Cities on any more tours after that.

I remember both. Canterbury because I bailed after looking at the radar. Yikes, wasn't any damn way I was driving out into that. I was making a beeline to get home and get my car in the garage to avoid the hail. I remember the Nicollet Island one because it was one of only two times I have talked to an ISU "somebody" and they did not act like it was beneath them to talk to me. That was Paul Rhoads. The other time was way back, chatting with Jim Waldon. Found out he was on the Huskers staff when we tied the 23-23 back when I was in school.

We planned to go to Canterbury, but decided it wasn't wise to take our two young kids out in that. I was worried about Jamie considering Minnesota a flop and cancelling the next year so I emailed him asking him to bring it up here the next year because the weather kept attendance down. (Yes, I emailed Jamie; go ahead and laugh) Of course the weather was colder than a witches +!+ the next year so even though we went as well it was still poorly attended.

We did meet the in-laws down in Mason City for it one year, but it is a pretty long drive for that on a school night.

The CR tailgate tour night always is an amazing turnout. People underestimate how many ISU fans are in Eastern Iowa.
I honestly see more ISU flags and and maybe a few less vehicle decals around here then I see TOE, the difference is most graduated from ISU or actually have a connection to the school in some way.

will definitely be taking the little man here in a few years when he's old enough to one of the stops in CR, Dub, or WTL.

Yah, they were supposed to be here at the Sioux City stop at 11:30, it's 1:15, just arrived

Yeah I had to leave, my lunch was over. I would imagine a big part of that crowd did so as well. The food setup was bad too. Last year was superior, it was at night and had a buffet. Large crowd. They will probably get some flack for this one.

Honestly, the majority of the crowd stuck it out, though as you probably noticed, the average age of the attendees was probably 60, so they maybe didn't have to hurry back to a job, ha. My family attended last year's (I was working) and yes, the buffet would have been awesome but they always do the food at the noon tailgates the same, which I don't mind too much, I guess.

No offense to other cities in Iowa but Sioux City is enough of a metropolis (at least in this state) that they should get an evening rather than a noon stop, more often than not.

Pollard was basically the MC and did the majority of the talking as John Walters was off hanging out with his grandson and daughter. Pollard handled all the Q & A except for one question for Kevin Dresser where he took the mike. The coaches spent all their time hamming it up with the crowd, taking pics and signing stuff.

Oh, another downer was the door prizes. We've been spoiled in past years by all the tickets they would give away (usually a pair for each home f'ball game and a few for basketball) but this year the only tickets were for the ISU-TOE wrestling dual mixed in with some shirts and a couple of coach signed items.

We always go to the one in CR. I messed up big last year and was trying to keep a kid from running around and missed them calling our number for a Campbell signed football.
I bet your hand still hurts from that spanking.

Is it just me or is there a lot less hype around this year's Tailgate Tour?

For instance, here is the complete article on Cyclones.com from yesterday:

"Today the 2019 Cyclone Tailgate Tour made stops in Knoxville and Bettendorf. Tomorrow it will be in Dubuque (Noon) and Cedar Rapids (5:30)."

I do enjoy seeing all the photos of the coaches, Jamie, and fans.

Pretty good event in Bettendorf last night. Attendance may have been down ever so slightly from last year but that may not be right. Seemed a bit less crowded to me.

An audience member asked Pollard about bringing back baseball. He spent probably 3-4 minutes giving a pretty well reasoned explanation (basically cost and being the northernmost school in the conference).
