I don't disagree, but they have so much more regional identity and stability. It's hard to tell stories of past rivalries when half the teams I identify with as an old-but-not-that-old ISU fan are in other leagues now.
Then our story isn’t the past, it’s our future. New members, new name, new attitude in a league where for the first time in college history there’s no blue blood or group of blue bloods ruling the roost. This is a fresh start with a fresh perspective on college athletics, especially football.

Pair that story with a plused up TV, digital, and social campaigns for the conference and I like our chances of standing out from the crowd.

I think this league is going to be hella-competitive and a blast to not only watch, but watch grow.

I think this will be great for ISU.

How is that word salad?

1. Linear still attracts the biggest audience, and that isn't going to change in the near future.
2. Live sports is a huge reason that linear isn't going away.
3. There is a need for both linear and digital.
4. We have ESPN+ (digital), but it's not enough.

I thought it was a pretty clear answer. Securing an OTA network for Tier 1 rights is still the primary revenue driver and priority in the upcoming deal. And there is an opportunity to expand digital offerings.

So the out-of-the-box hire gives a nod to streaming but basically says he's focused on linear? Can't wait to hear the analysis on that comment.

I, like many, want terrestrial TV to die too, but people have been waiting for that to happen for a decade and it’s still live and kicking.

Believe it or not traditional TV still gets the most eyeballs, so a hybrid approach is the way to go. And over time that scale will rise digital up to be king, but old-school TV will always be around.

MLS’s inventory is like 500+ games. Tier 1 big 12 would be closer to 70 games.

Two things:

Apple won't be buying our Tier 1, so that doesn't even make sense.

Once you add in basketball, we'd be offering way more than 500 games, and those basketball games draw more eyeballs than MLS too.

Yourmark will be in this for the long haul. He’s an ambitious guy that likes wheeling, dealing and making the “splash” deals.

The new Big12 will be his playground now with his sights on slicing the achilles heel of the SEC and BIG. He’s going to take the Big12 from newly minted upstart to “holy **** that conference is fun as hell to watch”.

It will take time, but the Big12 will steal a championship here and there, leaving the big 2 with 125 million worth of egg on their face.

We got the right guy.

Interesting and I'm not sure if that would prove to be true.

I don't go to Disney+ without a ****** kids movie in mind. If I clicked on that app the kids would immediately take control.

Peacock and Apple have sports and I've never watched on those platforms.

Paramount+? Maybe? Since it has a linear stream and live TV too.

I think the concept is - can you partner with one of those streamers to make Big12 football (Big12 sports in general) cool and connected to something beyond regular fandom. You're still putting as much of your good inventory on OTA for the best money. But can you get MORE from your 3rd tier rights by doing more than just baseball and track & field reruns?

You say you never watch Peacock and Apple sports - conversely I am sure my gf has never turned on ESPN+ to watch "30 for 30". But she did watch "Bad Sports" on Netflix and really got into it. Point is you are looking for sports-ish content for non-sports fans.

Could you have a reality TV show tied around the softball season? Can you do a 6-part documentary series on cross country? Could you do a cooking contest show with Big12 athletes? There are NIL opportunities for the athletes. Can they become influencers and build their own brands with help from the streamer? There is content to be generated here. The multi-million dollar question is: is there value in it??

I am not saying that this is the answer or even what they are thinking, but I think they are curious based on Yormark's comments and background. With the idea being, generate more content for maybe a different audience to drive more value that way. Don't market it all as sports content either - you're not looking for shows for sports fans, but more for the sports fans' kids and spouses, who maybe don't care about the games much but might be more interested in ancillary shows. Think Cyclones TV on steroids, combined with Netflix. While turning some of the conference athletes into semi-famous stars (this provides value to the athletes too, btw, esp the non-rev athletes).

I could be full of **** too, idk. Flame away.

The success that Netflix's Drive to Survive has had for F1 is exactly what the Big 12 should be going for. You can't half ass it though or you look cheesy. They should be producing something like Drive to Survive or Cheer or one of those shows that Netflix has had a lot of success with around the Big 12, like you said you could probably especially get buy in from smaller sports. Could you imagine an "Inside the Eye" like we had for our basketball team but with every Big 12 team last year? I'd be glued to it.

ESPN+ is a platform targeting sports fans.

Amazon, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+, Netflix are platforms the whole family can watch TV. By adding live sports, they give another reason for family members to spend time on their platform. In the future these platforms will replace or be a strong competitor to cable TV and even streaming multi-channels like YouTubeTV, Hulu, etc.

The last point seems wrong as i believe there would only be about 100 big12 in conference bb games.
