I actually feel bad for her. She is a kid and didn't know she was taking or was coerced into taking PEDs. Sounds like overall the competition was a **** show.

I was discussing this with my wife the other night. She’s just a child and she probably has no freedom. It’s not like a Russian can say “no thanks” to this kind of bull ****.

Holy crap she completely choked under pressure.

She didn’t even medal.
I just watched her performance- and it really made me wonder if she was trying her best, or if the weight of the entire situation has been way too much for a 15 year old to bear and it all came crashing down, or if she took a dive to not muck it up any worse than it already is with the medals and such. She seemed completely defeated during her performance.

I absolutely agree with this but Russia also needs to be held accountable or this **** will keep on happening.

That's another theory being floated she tanked so the other Russians could medal. I have no idea what the truth is other than she got caught doping.

Yeah, I had this discussion with my wife as well. I do feel bad for her. It’s not like she’s a mid-20s MLB player who knows exactly what he’s taking; it wouldn’t even stun me if her coaches told her “here, take this” without even telling her what she’s taking. To make matters worse, she’s the one competing, so she’s the one out front and center, so all of the negative press hit her head on instead of her coaches who likely made these decisions for her. And no, I don’t think she threw the competition; this kind of weight would make grown ups crumble, so it’s no surprise a 15-year old girl couldn’t handle it.

As far as holding Russia accountable, what the hell else are you going to do to them? They already haven’t had an official Olympics team for several Olympics now because they continuously pull this ****. About the only thing I can think of is a true death penalty by banning Russian athletes from the games as a whole, but is that fair to the greater number of Russian athletes actually playing by the rules?

After listening to the Canadian Womens(?) Hockey team sing the anthem, my ears are still bleeding.

Yep they are hockey players not singers. They knew the words to their anthem and weren't afraid to sing not really on key though. Proud and happy I'm ok with it.

I think banning them entirely is the only real punishment. This competing as the Russian Olympic Comittee and wearing Russian colors while claiming they aren't Russia is bull. Hell, Putin even attended the opening ceremonies for these Olympics that his country supposedly isn't competing in. If the athletes really want to compete during the Russian ban, they can go compete for a different country. There are plenty of athletes doing that already.

Yep. Quite simply a joke with the logo and colors they wear.

I don’t know if you saw the story on her and her dad, but I’m guessing that played a role. Seems like it took her some time to even decide to make a comeback.
Yeah I doubt she put in the same training regimen that she has previously. There are very few athletes that could do that and get away with it.

I think there needs to be a minimum age limit. The Russian coach is notorious for working the youngsters way too hard, only to have them retire before they are even 20 years old. These girls are way too young to take the physical pounding while they are still physically developing.
