It's also only been 6 months since the last Olympics, instead of the usual 18+. People might be Olympic'd out.

Sure, but there's usually a down period, then build-up to the next one. There was none of that this time.
Only in the last three decades. Before that both the summer and winter Olympics occurred in the same year. 1994 was the first time the winter Olympics weren't in the same year as the summer Olympics.

IMO that's how it should be

I figured three decades was a significant enough sample size. People are used to the 2-year rotation by now.

I don't know. When there was no Olympics for 4 years I don't think people had any problem getting up for two games in one calendar year. Frankly it seemed weird when they changed it to alternating even years.

The summer olympics were fun, had NBC on all day all night for 2 weeks.
Just cannot get into these Olympics not sure why.

For me it’s generally that the US sucks in most of the events, especially alpine skiiing. Also no NHLers makes the mens hockey unwatchable.

Winter games has always been more difficult to get into and it probably is because we suck at lot of it.

That, and I feel like figure skating is the Winter Games equivalent to swimming or Track & Field in the summer games, in that it’s the “prime time” event. I just can’t get into figure skating and it’s because I don’t know the difference between a sow cow, an axel or a damn toe loop. They all look the same to me. Guess what I’m saying is, the main programming doesn’t appeal to me and the alt channels play stuff like Curling. I’d like to try curling, but I don’t give a rip about watching someone else do it.

This all leads to a disconnect for me, and it’s always been that way. Because of that, I don’t recognize the commentators as much as I do for the summer games (I’m getting tired of Rowdy Gaines, but whatever).

Also…a lot of it just feels like the X-Games to me anymore.

@theshadow mentioned something earlier that resonated with me. Too much “judging” in the Winter Olympics.

Give me a steady stream of downhill skiing, and I’m good. I even like watching the biathlon and cross country skiing. Some snowboard cross, etc. If a clock is the judge, I’m in.

I wonder if the programming is the issue. I think the Olympics would be better served if you could just go online and watch the entire event you want. The traditional tv schedule is not ideal with time changes and stuff.

Programming and no crowds contribute.

I don't fault her. This happens a lot in other sports, so imo the outrage is dumb.

She's a greedy beeyotch.

They said all her marketing deals that she now has in China make her U.S. ones look like nothing..... and those are millions of dollars already. She's doing this for one reason, and one reason only.... for her own selfish good.

And she'll be winning gold medals for a ruthless regime that treats women horribly and has a horrible human rights record. The young Chinese girls she wants to have look up to her and want to be like her..... most of them will have no shot to do that because of how they are treated in China.

She was born in the U.S..... took advantage of everything the U.S. has done for her career.... and then bolted for her own selfish marketing deals in China. Congrats to her..... I guess.
