So now we have another fracture off of the main PGA, nice. PGA Tour and "PGA but More Money" Tour. Interesting.
I like the idea. It puts more money in the best players' pockets and with it being a 50-person field guys will have a big carrot to try and crack the top 50.

Will it be a rolling top 50 or at the beginning of the docket whoever is in the top 50 get to play the whole slate?

It also devalues the hell out of those many televised events which no longer fall into this mini-tour, unless they're all reusing the same events and just separating out the top players from the rest of the field.

Football, basketball, soccer, baseball, hockey aren't competition? Most pro sports are structured that way. The only ones that aren't are golf and tennis?

Team sports are very different than individual sports wouldn’t you say? I’m not against LIV at all and am glad the players get to cash in but it’s certainly a very different approach and for many of the players involved, it’s irrelevant if they win anything in purses because most of their money is already set.

Things they should have announced 3 months ago, but better late than never

So the World Golf Championships but with 8 events?

Top 50 from the previous season is stupid as hell too. This doesn’t address the problem of some of the best players in the world being stuck on Korn Ferry. Just make it top 50 OWGR

It also doesn't address them wanting a break. It helps the money issue a little, but it's mostly a joke. What you do is get rid of the reach-around ********, start the season right after the players, and make your special series run up to the players. Also axe the FedEx Cup. You no longer would have the watered down "important events" and guys can ease off the throttle for an extended period of time while lower level guys get their opportunities. Replace all those FEC events with events that give you lower end Tour status players and KFT players opportunities to make a run at the playoffs. The run of 7 events leading up to The Players is already a great slate of tournaments and it doesn't add 4 money grab events to the pile. Hell, sprinkle a couple of those big one in late summer/fall to get people there.

I love this post and then the earlier comparisons to NBA players. Golf is just not a great test case for the “overworked/undercomoensated” line of argument. (Not singling you out here just jumping off your post).

Definitely think that's true for Brooks. The jury is out on Bryson with injuries, this is his first one I believe.
The issue with Bryson is sustaining what he did to his body over a number of years.
He transformed his body in a relatively short period and has incurred multiple injuries over the last year.

i feel the LIV Tour is ideal for Bryson, he can play in 15-20 Tournaments annually and also pursue other interests. Last year that happened to be Long Drive competitions.

Believe me I'm not shedding tears for them. I don't think a lot of these guys are peeved at the compensation part relative to how much they have to play. I don't think that they like that the Tour shoves a tournament in every weekend and they have to play them every so often. It makes it hard to shut it down for a month at a time. Every other sport has an off-season that's very substantial and golf used to, but now it's year round and there are mandatory standards. Again, the Tour is kind of ****** there because it's in agreements that they will have an audience. The answer is to completely get rid of tournaments which should be pretty clear considering they can't find sponsors for some of them every year. Also, get rid of the WGCs if you're doing this series. They stink anyway.

I'm sure they look at the upper echelon of other sports and want that money but the fact is that the economics don't support it. It's only worth what people will pay similar to other sports. The best bowlers in the world aren't having $50 million seasons either. What LIV has done is appealed to that desire since it doesn't have to be feasible for them and it's working. I'm interested to see how long they're willing to push until either sponsors break and go their way or they fold up shop.

How long until the Saudis decide to start a league that rivals the NFL? All the upstart football leagues fail because of capital and the inability to attract the top talent. If $1 billion can be thrown at 12 golfers, I’m assuming they could throw $50 billion into a league to rival the NFL.

NIL + LIV = death of sports
How long before the Saudis decide to start a rival to the LPGA? Oh....wait...

McIlroy shoots 8 under in his 1st Round at the Travelers. Has 1 shot lead currently over Schauffele.

Bar the Saudi aspect. When I watched the initial LIV Tournament, the thought crossed my mind, if LIV REALLY wanted to be "revolutionary" they would have invited women to be part of their tour.

After all, golf already equalizes the differences between the sexes on a par 70 or 72 by adjusting the tee box location.

The DP World Tour just hosted a co-ed tournament earlier this month. The tournament was won by Linn Grant (a woman) who won by 9 strokes.

Or bring in average Joe’s and play the handicaps. That would be cool.
