Rojas lost to the #10 170 (Luke Geog, committed to Ohio State) this weekend. They were both up at 189, but Rojas wrestled at 171 in the dual before. No idea what Geog weighed in at, but he wrestled at 189 all day. I’m hoping that played a factor, because the match wasn’t all that competitive.

In other better news, Rojas is still a stud, Casey Swiderski is going all the way up to 160 to beat state placers just for fun, and Connor Euton beat a returning Ohio 3rd placer by 21-6 TF on Saturday.

Idk what other peoples opinions are but I absolutely LOVE when top tier high school kids go up a weight, go up a class, etc to find the better competition. For some it's all about the High School records which is fine and no issues with that at all...for others it's I want to wrestle the best no matter what happens, I want to prove myself.

Not too concerned when he bumped up two classes to get some competition. The kid barely weighs 170 as it is anyway.

Excited to have him at ISU

RE: Patrick Noonan. Coming at a weight where we have a need. If Redding is on his way down, that may be the solution, but just how good is this Noonan guy? The current Virginia 133 lber, Brian Courtney, is ranked about 24 by Intermat, and I am guessing that Noonan was stuck behind him. And Courtney is only a sophomore. Virginia has no one rated at 141, so I wonder if Noonan could have competed for that spot, if he has the talent that we must think he does. He came pretty highly rated out of high school, but I found some. rankings that put him in the 150 range. Is he supposed to be our answer after Ian Parker leaves, or is that a spot for Redding to inherit? Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye.

I don’t think any of the staff is giving the spot to Noonan. He will compete for the spot with Redding, Ramazan, Knopick, Swiderski and any others at 133 & 141

Thanks, buf. I didn't mean to insinuate that he would be given anything. I assume that he will have to compete. I am just wondering how promising he is, given his current rankings, etc.

Just because he signed here, doesn’t mean he got much scholarship money. None of us know what he was given. He might be a walk on or really smart and getting a lot of academic money

How’s everyone see this weekend’s duals going?
Do we win 6/7 of 10 matches against OU?
How about OSU over 3?

Sorry probably should have started a new thread!

" Coming out of high school, Noonan was ranked 10th at 132 pounds by Intermat and 15th by FloWrestling, while being ranked 91st overall by FloWrestling. The Stroudsburg, Pa. native was the runner-up at 132 pounds at the 2020 Pennsylvania State Championships. Noonan is a three-time Journeyman Classic Champion. "

Looking at that 2020 Pennsylvania State tourney, looks like Noonan beat Alejandro Herrera-Rondon in the semis before losing in the finals. AHR's Sooner bio says he was a 3x state champ, so Noonan was the one to stop him from winning 4. Herrera-Rondon went on to be the #1 152 pounder in the 2021 rankings.
