Check out our results in our tournaments at 125 since Mackall left. I’m not saying we haven’t had some nice wins but tournament results matter. I think a good transfer should be considered?

Regarding Redding- I know it was a tough cut but he seemed to have figured it out. Anyone think he can stay at 133? After getting a taste of some post season success?

Not sure it would be possible or if he would want it but he could be dangerous at 133 next year.
No, I don’t think Redding can stay at 133. Kudos to him for getting down this yr but that weight is behind him.

Somehow I missed those posts by @Bugjuice. I’m all in on doing what’s best for Casey.

Are Carr and Kraisser eligible for another year? I thought they were both seniors, or do they get a Covid year?

Reposted from a buried thread....

If they elect to use the Covid year:
'24 - Cabanban**, Carr, Devine, Judge, Stotts
'25 - Kraisser, Attasauov, Broderson, Fuessley, Bastida, Redding, Terukina**
'26 - Robinson

Add a year for Cabanban and Terukina if they get medical hardships for this season.

I'll also assume that Devine, Judge, and Stotts are electing not to use their free year based on going through Senior Day events.

Cabanban has Covid year but no medical hardship & Terukina will receive a medical for this year. Terukina and Redding will both be Sophomores next year if they choose to take the CoVid year. Redding will get medical for last season as he got hurt right around Christmas and never completed afterwards.

Yes, Devine, Stotts, and Judge are moving on.

I’ve heard Kysen may have had some things going on off of the mat, nothing serious but we’ll see what that means.

I’m not making lineup predictions but as of today here’s what we have at certain weights.

125 - Kysen (see above) , Cabanban, Perryman. Should be a decent weight

133/141 - Redding, Ramazan (he still around?), Frosts. Would be solid

149/157 - Paniro, Kraisser, Casey, Robinson, Euton. Again, should be solid or really good.

165/174 - Carr, Gaitan, Rojas. Even outside of Carr it should be good.

184 - Broderson, Helgeson, Naak? Need some help here.

197/Heavy - Yonger, Schon? Need some help here depending on what Yonger does. Apparently he needs to work harder!

And Mackall only AA'd because the tournament was cancelled.

There are multiple weights that have had significant podium droughts.

AA at each weight since 1999 (24 tournaments, excluding the COVID cancellation):
Wt.AAsLast
197132022 (Bastida)
165112023 (Carr)
18482023 (Coleman)
HWT82021 (Gremmel)
15772022 (Carr)
13372016 (Hall)
14172009 (Nick Gallick)
14922019 (Degen)
17422016 (Weatherspoon)
12522014 (Hall)

I agree that Kysen has something going on. Not sure if or how that will affect his status with the team.

I don’t think AE is in the mix. If Helgesom is front runner we need transfer baaaad.
Might want to check some of his results at end of year at 184. Had to miss over a year due to injury and appears to be starting to get his mojo back. A year to get stronger/bigger could make a huge difference.

It is really getting old to continue bad mouthing wrestlers especially ones that are just starting their college careers. Not everyone’s journey is the same. The instance stars that stay stars for a career are and few and far in between.

I agree we need a transfer to give us another option if Helgelson/Broderson/Naak don’t make the improvements needed to be an AA. But I’m not going to say that our current guys can’t become an AA next.

I watched helgeson scrap in practice for a couple of days and that kid goes hard. I’m certainly not counting him out

No one bad mouthed anyone.

This is a realistic assessment of our lineup. Hope Helgelson develops into a national champion. Recent results show that is no where near happening.

My best guess at next year's lineup:
125- Perryman/Cabanban/Kysen/maybe a transfer?
133- Ramazan/Frost/Transfer
141- Redding/Frost/Ech
149- Paniro
157- Kraisser/Robinson/Euton (Casey redshirt)
165- Carr
174- Gaitan
184- Broderson/Helgeson/Transfer
197- Yonger/Transfer
Hwt- Schon/Yonger (If Yonger decides to go up)

Lot's of moving pieces and it is going to be a busy couple of months. Biggest needs for a transfer are 133, 184, and 197 (Especially if Yonger does move up to hwt).

I can’t imagine Casey wanting to redshirt after competing this year, but I have no special insight on the situation. I’d be curious to know how much wrestlers defer to coaches on this sort of decision. As much as I want what’s best for the team, I want the wrestlers to enjoy their lives and do what’s best for them even more.

We definitely have higher needs at some weights than other.
No need at 165 for next year.
No need at 149

If a very high, potential guarantee AA transfer comes calling, you take him and everybody else figures it out.
*Yonger could be 197 or 285 next year, depending on transfers at 197 or 285 or how good the coaches think Schon is.
*Not sure on the plan at 184, but I think there is one.
*I assume the 174 plan is the new guys (Gaitan, Rojas)
*Not sure on the plan with Casey. Does he need surgery on his shoulder?? no idea. If yes, does that affect him building up for 157 next year???
*At 125, is Cabanban coming back or is Perryman that man or how is Kysen doing??
*At 133, is Redding going to man the spot or going to 141. Frosts looked good also. What is Casey doing???

Lots of moving parts and we don't know what is going to occur in the transfer portal that will affect that

I like the line up here. I’m on the train of developing some guys and not always looking to transfer. Those frost boys have loads of talent as does Euton, Perryman, Helgeson and Robinson. UNI does a great job of developing guys who buy in. A transfer once in awhile doesn’t hurt but coaches have done a great job with Kraisser and Coleman over the years. Glad they never gave up Coleman and just replaced him.
