That's a big move. With Irv Smith getting hurt (again) there were rumblings that they could be looking for a tight end, but I didn't expect them to make a splash like this. He's got a ton of potential.

Hockenson is fine. Don't think he's the 2nd coming of Dallas Clark though, like all Hawkeye fans want you to believe.

Maybe not, but he still solidifies the position nicely.

Now the only positions on offense that I’m waiting to see are center and another wideout.
I don't think there's much chance that we'll see any more movement from Minnesota today. TJ's cap hit is going to require some creativity. Can't imagine there's going to be room for anyone else of note

He may not be Dallas Clark but he is a top 10 TE in the league & is only 25. Also has had to deal with Jared Goff as his QB & an incompetent coaching staff (or staffs if you want to count Patricia).

Smith is currently ranked 47th & Mundt was 56th out of 67 qualified TEs, per PFF. Hockenson has been 13th, 10th, & 13th his last three years. That is a significant upgrade, even though PFF grades are far from gospel. They were getting next to nothing out of the position, & now have a legitimate threat there.

Just saw on Twitter that his cap number for the rest of the year is only like $550,000 & will fit under the cap without any cap work. Next year it's like 9 mil though - that may require some attention.

Interesting. Well that's doable then. I thought his salary followed to the team that traded for him, while bonuses stay with Detroit. His salary is something like $6 million this year, so I thought he'd be prorated for about half that.

Love the trade. Huge upgrade from our current tight ends and will give Kirk another weapon

Not sure how good he is either but given he's capable of blowing up for 170 and some TDs, that can't hurt. Irv certainly wasn't doing that.

TJ is someone the vikes need to lock up for multiple years after the season. Irv isn’t it.

The Vikings will have very few draft picks next year. They better win it all now.

I'm guessing Adam Thelein may be seeing his time in Minnesota coming to an end.

I wasn’t thinking about the immediate future. We aren’t up to “perennial Super Bowl contender” yet, and I was just thinking about the weak spots in the roster that can be filled next off season, via the Draft and free agency.

Probably a little less via the draft now.

It’ll be sad, but it’s time after the season. He just doesn’t have much left in the tank anymore. Solid possession guy, but can’t beat anyone down field any longer. Hoping on Reagor to develop more and take that spot.
