The good news from that interview is that it sounds like Elam has improved a ton over the summer health wise and is getting really close to full strength.

I don’t mean anything negative, but considering the level and quantity of injuries this kid has battled through, I’m not holding my breath unfortunately. I hope I’m wrong

Sounds like dresser knows that and is going to limiting him. Prolly see him at Iowa, ok st and few others sprinkled in. Ramp him up for big 12s.

I love how open and honest dresser is in his interviews

So who would we have go in the lesser duals if we are trying to rest?

Carroll could wrestle until the RS requirement hits for 125. Did Meza end up taking a RS?

What about the other weights?

Some depth guys that will likely get matches this year:

125- Castillo (up to 5 events to preserve the redshirt), Perryman
133- Meza (but I expect Evan to wrestle quite a bit- he and Jacob are both guys that are better when they get a lot of matches in to get in a rhythm)
141- Osmany
149- Guessing it will be mostly Jacob or Paniro, both guys will need the reps
157- Kane Naak
165- Whoever wins the weight will need the reps
174- Whoever wins the weight will need the reps
184- Bartelt
197- CJ Carter
Hwt- Guessing we see Yonger for most of the duals as the backups here are pretty thin while we preserve Herrera's redshirt

I liked what I saw out of Grice late in the season last year. Think he could spell Evan at 133 as well.

Probably answering my own question, but is the 5 competition rule for redshirts only available to freshmen? That is, Herrera and/or Powe could not wrestle and still retain their redshirt...

KD basically indicating now that guys are going to be on a pitch count if you're old is smart. It will suck to drive to Ames and not see the big guns but I get it. I think it's smart he starts to say this now so people start to understand. Fans can be whiny. Lol

Fans can be whiny because without fans, there are no sports. But I'm guessing most of the big guns will wrestle in the home duals, and especially all the big home duals. If what Dresser said about Elam is true (he was going pretty much live wrestling Bastida) then he might be more ready than they were expecting. Some guys need to stay in the groove and making weight to stay sharp. I think the coaches will be taking it week by week if I had to guess, they are smart and have all the experience. I just hate to see a guy pull back and then get to the end of the year and just not be clicking, Andrew Alirez was a good example of that just this past season.

It’s a fine line. I like KD pre-empting a pitch count for our 6th year guys. But we all having ducking and oranges in our minds, I get it. KD, in my opinion, is doing the right thing in the month of August…”our guys are more experienced and have lingering injuries; we’re telling you right now that the pitch count is about legitimate health, rather than ducking competition for seeding purposes. And if you disagree, check our medical receipts.” Just my two cents.

I trust the coaches know the RS rules. They have said they plan to RS him for the past few months.
Yeah didn’t mean that to sound like I was doubting the coaches at all, just was curious on the plan or how that works since he technically already used a RS. Would just be a medical then?

Dresser was high on Powe this summer.
