Minnesota is a high tax state but so is California. California generally has a significantly higher income tax rate than MN and has a very similar overall tax burden to MN.

I hope this isn’t another typical big reach by the Twins on a washed up player. For this kind of money, they should have just kept Gio.
At least Gallo has a gold glove that his strike out buddy Sano doesn’t have.

Gallo and Gio are completely different. Plus, they didn't really get rid of Gio as a cost savings measurement. Kyle Farmer earns quite a bit too, so that swap probably only saves them 3 or 4 million.
Honestly, they are running out of options to make moves to contend in 2022. Its going to be interesting to see if they plan to contend or plan to rebuild.
With Swanson the only big money guy left, they do have money to spend. And whether they are rebuilding or contending, it probably makes sense to spend it.
There is a decent chance Gallo bounces back. Its not like he got super old and maybe he just wilted under the pressure of Yankee Stadium. If he does, he'd be a big help on a contending team, or a valuable mid-season trade piece. Worst case is he flops and he's off the team in 2024. Its not like spending $11M on him prevented them from signing Correa or Rodon or someone like that.
They are probably trying to contend, but if they are underwhelming during the season, they have a TON of trade assets to replenish their farm system.
The Twins do have the money, but I’m not holding my breathe that they will outbid the Braves or Cubs for Swanson.

Yeah, I don't think they will either. I would rather have them spend the money anyway on some potential help than bank it.

Since the Twins lose out on some very good players waiting on Boras, why play his game. Go after some of those guys that don’t work with Boras.
Just watch the Twins sign Eovaldi to a three-year, $50 million contract only for him to need rotator cuff repair three starts into the season.
