Staples is the same guy who wrote the very complimentary piece about Wally Burnham and the defense on Saturday. I think he's become a fan.

I'm OK with this.

Wow, really? I wish there was some text to go along with that ranking. I'd love to hear the explanation. I love where we are right now but no way are we top 30.

I too, think it's a bit high of a ranking for us. I won't complain about it though.

Agreed that we are probably not a top 30 team right now. But it's great press. If we can find a way to end strong this year the good news is that we are now being watched and could end up in the Top 25. If we do, that would be a HUGE way to start the new coaching era... what a big plus that would be to take into the off-season for recruiting and establishing a strong tradition.

Either way, win or lose here on out... we are definitely seeing improvement for the future of our program. All signs are pointing up!

I think we are a top 30 team. When we beat A&M we'll be a top 25 team :D

I agree, and I think the ESPN Tim Griffin love putting ISU at #5 in the Big 12 is too high as well.

That said...ISU has gotten some love this week. An opportunity is there to go down and beat A&M, and show that the love is deserved. In the past, ISU football has not done well with these sorts of opportunities (i.e. Big 12 North title games, 6-0 start a few years ago, etc).

It would be so awesome if CPR was the guy who could finally push ISU FB to consistently capitalize on the opportunities that come along. He got a good start last week...

IMO, win the next 2 games then top 30 might be a possibility. Anyway, the positive press is awfully nice, almost forgotten what it felt like

I think what we are seeing is that ISU is one of the teams thats on a roll right now. The good thing as fans is that ISU is getting some recognition. But I too agree that it is a little high and I hope CPR is keeping the guys head in the right place.

Even if Iowa isn't "the team" I have a hard time believing USC should get a shot for the title

If USC jumps Cincy and IA (assuming both are still undefeated) for the Nat'l Championship game...holy crap. The whole thing would be a joke (as it is now...). Maybe that will happen, Cincy and IA both roll their bowl teams, USC is crushed, and the BCS implodes.

Shouldn't Kansas State be ranked ahead of ISU?

Regardless, as you all have said, it's probably a bit high but as of right now I'd put ISU one spot behind KSU.

Kind of like the VB polls, Nebraska is ranked one spot above ISU. Doesn't make sense, we have the better record and have the head to head win.....

Our wins are against teams with a combined record of 15-23. While we are improving and have lost games in the recent past against these kinds of teams - we're certainly not top 30 material just yet. Our only win over a team with a current winning record is Nebraska.

If we had defeated KSU and/or KU, I could get on board with this a bit more.

Win 3 of the remaining 4 and give Oklahoma State a close game - I think it's deserved.

I checked cbssports.com earlier this week and they had us ranked around 50, which I think is more accurate. I wish I could include a link, but that site is blocked at work. I think ISU would start getting votes if we hit 7 wins, but wouldn't be able to crack the top 25 without at least 8 and either a win or a close loss to OK St.
