Size of the RB isn't the issue. Predictability and zero push by line is the problem. Capt obvious here but our lineman aren't very physical. I think Mangino is a little stubborn.
Watch the game last week?

There's a reason why the fullback position exists. I remember Ryan Kock in short yardage situations. Dude was almost an automatic first down.
I'm telling ya, Levi Peters. How hard would it be to have him practice running the ball 10 minutes a day. It's not like it would take away from his time on defense, cause he ain't out there.
I want a two-back, under-center, straight-ahead in that situation, even if the defense knows it's coming (because we don't use that formation in most situations).
If it gets stuffed, you can punt. If it goes for even a half-yard, consider going for it on 4th.
Either way, it burns clock and you have a choice to attempt the risk of the 2-for-1yard.
Eventually, you can use that approach and run a play-action in a similar situation.

Wasn't he hurt today?
Totally agree about the line but having a bigger back would help...
Think it was the 4th down play but it could've been a 3rd and short, Wimberly got hit from the side at the LOS and fell straight down on his knee...a bigger back running "downhill" would've absorbed that hit and fell forward for the 1st down.
A guy weighing 177 lbs. should not be your short yardage back.
Pretty sure he was out there on kick-offs, could be wrong.
Either way, it's probably something that needed to be put in in camp. I just think it shows a lack of creativity.
It's a number of things, I think. The OL lack of push combined with a light, speedy back and a pretty telegraphed play call. I would really prefer a bigger back there, but it's all hindsight. Wimberly is a pretty good 1-cut guy too, so you want t say he can get a yard if he can get that cut.
This, why can't we line up under center and try the sneak in these situations?
The only thing that bugs me about 3rd down is we have no push on a short situation. They might as well thrown the ball in that situation, to catch the other team off guard.
