That play means nothing if the southron officials don't screw us on our own goal line where we take the ball away and the guy is still falling down.....Typical big 12 official screw job from Dallas Texas....

Im OK, kicking the field goal. I was more ****** off about the 2nd down call in that series where Wimberly got tackled for a loss. It was 2nd and 1 from the Texas 4...it was Woody time, IMO.

You have to kick the field goal in that situation. You have to trust your defense to keep them out of the end zone. My issue is not putting Woody in when it was 2nd and 1 at the 4. If we had done that, I think we win.

I think it would have been a good time for the MAD HATTER to pull a fake.

Have to agree with this. IMO, Messingham destroyed everything he had built the entire game with this one play call.

I don't have a problem with Wimberly but if you're going to use Wimberly don't try to force it between the tackles. Woody has been effective exactly zero this year running the ball...his best use has been as a blocker.

I agree.

As far as kicking the FG, have to take the points there and get a stop. I'm OK with the kicking, as much as I've tended to hate kicking.

You gotta take the points in that situation. With that much time on the clock you cant just allow a team like texas to tie with a field goal. You make them beat you with a TD and put your defense out to make a stop like they had shown that they could up to that point. Cant really help the fact that we got shafted by the refs.

I'm fine with the ******** about the 2nd down play-call but the only way you should kick that field goal is if it's like 4th and 15.

Go..................for..............it.

The opportunity to end the game is right in front of you.

Normally I'd agree with you. However, our D was very, very good in the second half (with the exception of Pass Interference tendencies). If our D had been having trouble during the game, then by all means, go for it. I really thought our D would be able to make a stop. As it turns out, we did, just didn't get credit for it.

I would have liked to see an option to Wimberly on the perimeter or maybe a bootleg. Had we gone with Woody and run it straight ahead, Texas still would have known what was coming and I think they still make a play there.

Being up 3 with Texas having the ball at the 5 is better then being up 6 with texas getting the ball at the 25. However being up 10 with texas having the ball will win the game for us. Risk far less then the reward in this scenario.

If we thought we would stop them, then going for it doesn't hurt us. There is always the chance that our D gets a safety or the tight field leads them to make a mistake. By not going for it we gave our selfs no say in the outcome and let Texas dictate the end of the game.

Also, i am not a fan of spiking the ball on 1st down. Take 3 seconds, save the down and get a play off.

Well unless we, you know, cause a fumble on the goal line.

One reason of what I assume are many that you're not a D1 football coach.

As Clark posted last night, folks who study this situation statistically suggest that going for it is the better play in that situation. Kicking the FG is the conventional, conservative play. Unfortunately, conservative FB hasn't usually been kind to ISU in the past.

UT's defense is not good (ISU's really isn't either if you look at current rankings). IMO, ISU had a clear advantage when the offense was on the field. Yet, when the game came down to one play that could have sealed an ISU victory, ISU chose not to use that advantage, and settled for a FG. It was safe choice, but guaranteed that UT's best unit would have a chance to win the game, and it increased the opportunity for something like botched officiating to play a role in determining the outcome of the game.

UT is loaded with top talent to play offensive-oriented Big 12 FB. Granted, they aren't coached very well, but they still have the talent. 3 minutes and 40 seconds is an eternity as far as an offensive score in the Big 12. I think the call to kick the FG played right out of ISU strength and right into UT's strength.

In the bigger picture, 30 points is not going to win many Big 12 FB games. The offense was better, but a red zone 2nd and 1 at the 4 yd line has to end in a TD in the Big 12.
