I know some other teams do it, but on a big 4th down "Mars: Bringer of War" by Gustav Holst would be a good one for the band to try out.
We already play that, actually. Fairly often, for that matter. We don't really play it at any specific time; it's one of those tunes that can be inserted into just about any situation where we need some loud music. However, we do play it a lot more when we're on offense.

Mars is too cool to chop into a 4-bar soundbyte. I'm sure we can come up with a good 4th-down cheer if we give it some time.

Are there any 4-bar phrases in Thunderstruck that could be rearranged for a band? I don't know the song very well.

How about "Du Hast" by Rammestein? Always seems to get me pumped up. Not sure what du hast means though.

I really liked the "Ole" song after scoring a touchdown. They only played it once that I can remember though.

As for 4th down, it should obviously be the intro to Bulls on Parade. It's loud, it's intimidating, it's angry, and it's rock.

"O Fortuna" It picks up and gets real intense later in the song. I am sure we have all heard it.

What about the theme to "Jaws". Very band friendly. Very easy. After a while the croud will start to know it's comming. Good for all.

you hate is the translation

"You
You hate
You hate me
You
You hate
You hate me
You
You hate
You hate me
You
You hate
You hate me"

Actually, this is not what the song means. The "Du hast" acually means "you have"...the German phrase "Du hast mich gefragt" means "you have asked me"

The song is actually about not being ready for marraige. It asks, will you be true to me for all days?

Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nicht gesagt.
You have asked me, and I have said nothing.

Here's a full translation

Interesting, thanks. I do kind of like the idea about the Jaws theme song.

I am not discrediting your translation, because I dont speak german. Hell, it could say I love you and i believe it. But I have heard "You hate me" for awhile now and I went and did a search before I posted to remind myself and thats what came up.

so whats up with that?

I've heard a couple reasons for this. One is that it is a deliberate play on words. The other is that the song's meaning was incorrectly translated in English to give a greater "death-metal" feel, like the music. You can believe what you want, I guess:rolleyes5cz:

one of the reasons for not playing go cyclones go is for the lyrics it has or has been given with, Don't Know the Words, Don't Know the Words to this stupid ****ing song. As of the 4th down or safety I would love to play Thunderstruck for them.

"Don't know the Words" is the most popular song we have - yet the new students aren't learning it because the band only plays it once a game!

I realise the university sees this as a win, but comeon at least we sing to that one! No one knows the ISU fight song dispite the last 10 years being dedicated to teaching it. All its accomplished it everyone know the last four words - with this awkward silence during the first 75% of the song.

Its a sad state of affairs.:sad9cd:

A suggestion I have for a 4th down song is a grandfather clock chime to represent the campanile. Much like the 2001 Space Odyssey clip you guys play occasionally. I know it sounds pretty cheesy, but with the right intensity, it could sound great.

As for Thunderstruck, we really need to get people in on chanting Cyclones in place of Thunder! Aaah aah aaaah aaaaaaah, CYCLONES!

Have any of you sent emails to JP for this kind of stuff. I think some of them are great ideas.

Ok, here is my beef for songs and things.

Our opening way of introducing the team to the crowd. This has gotten on my nerves for some time now. Fist it always seems to change from one game to another.

The last one I can think of went as this:

They started that movie with tunderstruck playing with it. Then they started our traditional song to only stop it, introduce the team, and start it up again. When you want electricity, you cant stop a song that everyone claps a beat to.

Here is my proposition:

1.)Play the movie with thunderstruck playing with it.
2.) Ring the siren like there is a tornado warning going off.
3.) Make some cleaver announcement introducing the team
4.) then start the song that we clap to and let the team run on the field.

I would be interested to hear suggestions too.

Good suggestion.

I would say something like

1.)Play the movie with thunderstruck playing with it.
2.) Ring the siren like there is a tornado warning going off.
3.) Make some cleaver announcement introducing the team
4) Team runs on to the band playing the fight song. (24.5 seconds)
5.) Start jock jams...or other clapping song immediately after.

In the past they have either stopped the jock jams/thuderstruck ..turned it down or just continued to play them as the team ran onto the field to the fight song.

It would be an easy thing to do and would really improve upon things.

Well if we can work together on a good suggestion, I would be willing to send it to JP, though he is already probably reading this.

A little off the subject but I like how we say,"That's another cyclone- 1st down!"

I think we should do that for all the downs:
""That's another cyclone- 1st down!"
"That's another cyclone- 2nd down!"
"That's another cyclone- 3rd down!"
"That's another cyclone- 4th down!"

(typed sarcastically by the way.)
