Iowa's offense really struggles without a good point guard. There were a couple times when their bigs got the ball 14 feet from the basket and couldn't find anyone to throw it to for 6-7 seconds. Point guard needs to get open and get the ball out of their hands.

They could be a lot better next year with the addition of a good point guard and a couple off guards. Certainly do not need any more role playing forwards.
They aren't getting a PG next year unless somebody transfers and they can convince a kid to play behind Fran's son. Good luck with that.

Fran's kid will help them a little bit but is not what they need at the PG position.

I really liked that Nick talked to him a bit about that after the play though. Nick was the definition of a leader in this game.

I'm usually not one for trashtalking but I also kind of like how Wiggs and Lard have a streak in them. Just needs to be used toward the game.

Agree on NWB. His demeanor is something you can't coach.

Iowa could have been called for about a dozen moving screens.
No doubt. Bohannon was unguardable running the baseline and trying to run through this.

Correct, Iowa is currently full on schollys right now. I don't see anyone transferring unless Fran tightens his rotation and we all know that isn't happening.

I disagree with this. Iowa has some talented players that would do quite well if they played in the right system. Some of them have to be sitting there on the bench wondering why they are only playing 10-20 minutes per game on a team that is struggling. Plus it can't be easy dealing with Fran every day in practice. We'll see what happens, but I would not be surprised to see mass defections if they continue to struggle the way that they are now. If some of them would transfer it would probably be better for both the players and Iowa because it would force Fran to shorten his rotation.

The list of players that have transferred out of Iowa while Fran has been there isn't very long. Fran baits his players along with PT and history shows that he will likely not tighten up his rotation. I actually think Iowa will have a player transfer at the end of the season and hint...it's the one guy they don't want to lose....

The Des
JorBo went full-on Keiton Page/Phil Forte in the second half last night. Sprinting around aimlessly until one of the somewhat legal screens freed him for an open three. He's effective at that, and that's about it.

I don’t think I’d be surprised if Cook transferred.

If I were Fran I would play Cook at the 5, Pemsl at the 4 with Nunge being their backup.

Garza and Kreiner are just wasting space out there, IMO.

Thoughts on this quote @dexterhawk?

"I think we did play better," said Iowa junior forward Nicholas Baer. "This was one of the better games we’ve played"

I don't know about dexterhawk, but I think that's accurate from what I've seen. They've played flat out horrible basketball at times. They played hard, had good movement on offense and much better defense than I've seen.

Glad we won, loved the effort and intensity and I love seeing the team continually improve.

However, we need to work on communication/game plan on screens from a defensive perspective. We left good three point shooters open way too often last night. We also left Pemsl open several times when he dove to the block after setting screens.

I'm pretty sure Coach Prohm will be watching some video with some players, and I'm optimistic that will be cleaned up by the time we play UNI / Big 12 competition.

Happy for ISU to get the win.

As you could see early, this team will struggle when they aren't knocking down shots (3-13 from deep at half) and when they arent rebounding (gave up 11 offensive boards in first half). Lard picking up two quick fouls certainly didn't help rebounding.

Loved the high-low action from Brase/Lard.

Nunge for Iowa was impressive. He will be a good player.

Wigginton is a stud, and NWB has been insanely good.
Yes, teams tend to struggle at basketball when they can't shoot or get the ball.

yeah, defense still leaves a lot to be desired but they are showing flashes. I think they will continue to improve on that end.

I think Jordan Bohannon would be great on our team. Give him a PG to feed him and let the man eat.

I don't know who he'd start over, but he could be a 6th or 7th man. Maybe like Tyrus McGee or Matt Thomas a few years back

Your first sentence?....No way. I remember the same silly rumors about Jok too. Nothing to it.
