If Chizik can win 10 games, we need to pay the man! Plus like others have said, hopefully he and his family become really attached to Ames (which actually isn't too far off.)

2008 was GREAT! We won the North (finally) but lost to A&M in 4 OTs of the B12 Championship game. We still managed to get a BCS bid, The Orange Bowl, where we beat the Hawks 72-6!
You had me until "Hawks". I could believe the rest.

(Couldn't resist )

NDakotaS - W
Iowa - W
Kent State - W
Army - W
K State - W
Kansas - W Lose a lot of seniors
Baylor - W
Nebraska - ? We should be ahead of them in rebuilding
T A&M - ? Same thing
Ok State - ? Tough one
Colorado - ? Hawkins might have them in first place
Missouri - ? If we played them early, I would give us a win because they're bringing in a new QB.

Possible to win 10-11 games. Texas and Oklahoma off the schedule again. Should have an experienced, and dominating OL. A TON of talent at the skill positions (Bo, Austen, Phillip, Sed, J Carlson, A Rob, Schwartz, Hamilton, Darks, Harper, Franklin, Lonzie Range and don't forget Tiller). I can't ever remember being that loaded all over the field. I know most still have to prove themselves though.

I really don't have any doubts about our defense with Chizik in charge. Could be the year we get on the map again. Actually, it NEEDS to be the year since we will have Texas and Oklahoma in '10.

Disclaimer:
I'm definately not saying they will win 10-11 games. I'm saying there's a chance. I predict 8-9 wins. Just like this year I predict 4-5 wins, with a chance to get 6-7.

thats some strong kool-aid ya got there sonny.... can i get some?

We haven't won a road game in forever so until that happens, I'll put us at 6-6 minus 2-3 games that we should win but won't. This guy must have the kool aid flowing and the cardinal and gold goggles on tight.

I'm not predicting 10-11 wins, more like 8-9 wins. I am realistic, but you would be crazy to say we don't have a good shot at every game.

8 or 9 wins is being realistic? We have won 2 conference games combined in the last 2 years and managed a grand total of 5 wins overall. Please tell me how winning 8 games at the worst and possibly 11 at the best is being realistic at this point in time?

I know Chizdick was the worst coach in America but was he really holding us back that much?

Is that you Michael Phelps? Only someone high on the wacky weed would make a prediction like that...

To answer your question: yep

I have no doubt a different coach could have won several more games, hell McFarland would have. McCarney probably 7-10 wins those two seasons, Gary Barnett probably 14 wins in two years with this team. A smart coach will do it.

We had a pretty good kicking game, better running game as the season went, great skill players; yes a bad D but they never planned for the arena Big 12, different D/adjustments may have made more stops.

You guys realize that the original post is from July of 2008, right? When Coach Chizik was a 3-win head coach and we had high hopes (at least higher than 2 wins) for last season, let alone for 2009. This was still a pretty crazy prediction, but the original poster was obviously not making any statement about Chizik holding us back, because the poster likely assumed, like the rest of us, that Chizik would be the head coach for the 2009 season. Looks like it's been a good thing that that assumption was mistaken.

OK, I read the first 2 pages thoroughly, and have one question...

Is this thread referring to the 2009 season? :jimlad:

Some of you must not have watched the same games I did last year.

4-8 or 5-7 at best, only because of the easy schedule. This team has a long ways to go. When's the last time we won a road game? Like 1979. Plus we have a rookie head coach. He will make mistakes. They all do. One thing I will say is we better beat Kent State on the road. Seriously, not only are they terrible but there will be like 10k fans there.
