Maybe to us but to people around the country it's not viewed as an accomplishment.

we need enough fewer bowl games so a 6 win team won't ever get invited ...... way too many now

This is inline with my thinking. A 6-6 Big 12 team deserves that bid a lot more than an 8-4 MAC/WAC/MWC/CUSA/Sun Belt team.

Exactly. MAC teams and others play NO ONE. Those teams bring NO ONE to the bowls and the TV sucks as well. Go back to 5 bowls then. Period.

Pretty good article in the Gazette about this issue today, in the article:

Why the sudden change? That’s for Delany to say. But a few facts regarding Big Ten bowldom indicate the schools are getting played by their hosts. Eight different Big Ten schools submitted 2011-12 bowl reports to the NCAA, which were acquired by The Gazette via the Freedom of Information Act. Those eight schools were required to sell 102,898 tickets. More than 35 percent — 36,409 — went unsold. Many of the tickets were in upper decks and stadium end zones.

Breaking it down even more, if you remove Rose Bowl-bound Wisconsin (which sold 24,750 tickets) from the mix, the other six schools were given 78,001 tickets. About 47 percent — 36,262 — were unsold. The costs of unsold tickets syndicate to every Big Ten school and is subtracted from everyone’s bottom line. The number likely is worse considering the Big Ten’s two schools that have yet to submit numbers to The Gazette were Penn State and Northwestern, which were dispersed 18,000 tickets for low-level bowls.

On Iowa Daily Briefing 4.26.12 | TheGazette

The article also has some very good info about the new playoff system likely coming in 2014.

I don't know about getting played. That's what you get for having so many of the upper half bowls/new years day + as your tie-in. The Big 10 wants the exposure of playing the majority of their games on or after New Years day. A price comes with that. If they are really that upset, why not start looking to get out of the Capital One, Outback, and Gator Bowl Tie ins. It sucks for these teams, I will admit that, but I'm sure presented with an ultimatum, the Bowls would offer to look elsewhere for Conferences to fill the spots. If not, then the Big 10 is doing a bad job of negociating these contracts for their teams when the Bowls come calling.

This is one of my big beefs with this whole argument. I'm sure the ticket allotment is discussed when contracts are signed between bowls and conferences. As I said earlier in another post, it's not required to accept a bowl game. Notre Dame turned one down and I'm sure other teams could do the same if they wanted to. I would be interested to see what would happen if the Big 10 got together and say, "Hey, we aren't taking that ticket allotment, it has to be reduced some." If the Big 10 is the draw they think they are, then I don't see why the bowls wouldn't work with them.

ISU was 6-6 for it's last two bowl games.

1) Personally, I really, really enjoy going to bowl games - been to the last three. I think that it is a deserved reward for a team and fanbase that have fought hard in a tough football conference with a tough conference schedule.

2) The exposure ISU has gotten in the bowl games is great. If you were not in NYC in December, it is hard to imagine the buzz everywhere we went with our ISU gear and the other ISU fans. If that even gets one recruit to look our way, it is worth it from a recruiting standpoint.

Keep the 6-6 teams on bowl games.
