We'll I think you got your answer after watching the game today. I think Fred must of read your thread as well. Good job Cyclones.

Did anyone else see Fred after McGee fouled on the made 3-pointer? Turned and kicked the scorer table. Just because he doesn't yell and throw a tantrum, doesn't mean he doesn't show emotion.

I definitely think that Fred needs to show more emotion on the sideline... (sarcasm alert)

As some wise men have said, things are never as good or bad as they seem. Now if we as fans could understand that this is just a game played by young men, maybe we could sleep better. Be good to each other, it's just not worth it.

Looking back on it Fred is a genius. He gets emotional about things that he can potentially influence (bad calls), but doesn't get emotional about things he can't really change (shots not going in).

Amusing thread. Fred has his own style. I like the fact he is one of the sharpest tacks on the floor. He knows how to motivate people. If you don't think so, just pull out some Royce White video before, during and after Fred Hoiberg.

I would like Fred to sit Korie and Clyburn down for the rest of the game when they play lackadaisical and selfish. We might lose but at least the other players in there would pay with some heart.

I think part of the reason Bubu got a bunch of minutes in the first half was because Korie was playing pretty sloppy early on.

Fred dropped a couple F-bombs on the officials today after the bad charging call on McGee.

That was one of the worst block/charge calls I've seen in a long time. And it came courtesty of Paul Jansen - surprise, surprise. McGee got completely around the defender and all the contact was on the side. Textbook definition of a block.

That might be the the most upset I've ever seen Fred. I don't think he was saying golly gee willikers.
Funny story. After watching the Cyclones beat Cincy in Detroit in '97, I got to sit behind the UCLA bench as they played, I believe, Xavier. Steve Lavin actually talks like this! "Golly gee, fellas. Let's get our heads together."

Re: Fred. He keeps it real and shows emotion when it matters. Believe it or not, officials tune constant ******* like Huggins and Knight out. Officials respect Fred because he ******* when it matters and when he ******* he actually has a point.

Can we buy out Jansen's contract?

Here is a comparison of Paul and my personal fav, Ed Hightower.
Compare College Basketball Referees: Ed Hightower vs Paul Janssen - StatSheet.com

Paully is keeping up with Mr. No Clue when it comes for fouls per game (38) but got him by a wide margin in technicals per game.

You can either coach and manage or you cannot and Hoiberg can. These coaches that scream and yell all of the time and are successful are mainly successful because they know enough about basketball to be successful. They get results in spite of their screaming and yelling. When you scream and yell at a subordinate, you are being a bully because you know the other person cannot scream and yell back at you or give you a much deserved punch in the mouth. I am not talking about not ever getting mad and maybe raising your voice but when it becomes your “style” you have issues.

Way up there
Asking Fred to act like Paul Rhoads, would be like asking Paul Rhoads to act like Fred. Both guys do what works for them, each guys style helped get them to this point and their track records speak for themselves. There is no better or worse way to coach, you can be a great coach being calm and collected, you can be a great coach being the guy who gets in guys faces and escalates emotion. We happen to have both type of coaches at ISU, I'm okay both.

In Fred's first year, when California was here for a game, we all watched Cal get away with various sorts of travels over and over and over. During a timeout, Fred gave an instructional clinic to the officials about travelling and what it looks like (with a couple of neat demonstrations). From that moment on, the travels got called.

He didn't show anyone up. He didn't snap or freak out. He just told them what he saw and explained it. The rest took care of itself. For me, it's a favorite Fred moment.
