I am switching to them for my car and home insurance and am saving a boat load of $. One catch is that you have to be a AAA member. That is the reason for my joining.

I spend a lot of time on the road, and my AAA membership has more than paid for itself it the times I've had to be towed, my reimbursements for surprise hotel stays, and the discounts I've got through them. And no, I get no sponsorship money from AAA.
I also can't find a promo code anywhere to share with you.

I think you can also get a discount on Directv with AAA.

I know the girlfriend's AAA membership is WELL worth it.
I would have at least come out even this year as well, had I been a member.

Never have had AAA, my new car came with a free year of OnStar and never have used it once and I don't plan to renew it when the year is up either. I figure I already have GM roadside assistance with my car that will cover me through my warranty and anything like a flat tire I can change myself so why waste the money on it? I have a cell phone for anything else. You can probably put tow coverage on your insurance policy cheaper too I bet.

If all you are using it for is roadside assistance then it's a waste of money. You can get roadside assistance and rental coverage under you car insurance for a few dollars a month.

If you read my post, I said I have to get it to get the AAA auto/home insurance and am saving a lot of money. I just want a promo code, if anyone has one.

Thanks!

What insurance company were you with before that you're saving so much?

I was with American Family. My agent quit American Family and became just a broker for a bunch of companies. I went with Met Life b/c it was cheaper than American Family. I have had 2 glass claims in the past 2 years and was encouraged to shop it again.

So, I am getting more coverage on house and autos, a NEW umbrella policy and the cost for the AAA membership and am saving in the 00s per year.

I'll tell you this. If you switch from Am Fam to anything else you;ll save money. Maybe not so much on the auto side, but the Home Owners insurance will save you just about anywhere you go.
I know how ridiculous the rates can be. I used to work for them.

Who was your agent?

Her last name changed 3 times. Acutally I have not heard a peep from her in 2 years. She got married and moved to another office. Her name was Lomli or something like that when I started with her.

Marci Lomeli.

I switched when I walked into my agent's office and she didn't know who I was. We worked for the same company.

Am Fam is a lot higher in Home Owners. If you talk to the right agent they'll tell you the same thing. A guy I work with switched from them after 25 years because he was going to save $450/year in HO. Then they were absolutely beat when it came to Auto and his newly driving teenager.

When I first started dating my wife - she had Am Fam and I was less than impressed. She hit a deer one night and it took FOREVER for the claim to get adjusted and processed.

When my uncle retired (who was my agent), we switched both my auto and hers, and the house over to Liberty Mutual and got the ISU Alum discount. I think they were pretty much the cheapest of the more major carriers.

So far I've had nothing to gripe about. We've only had two glass chip repairs on her car. Nothing else car or house. But a friend of mine had a second floor laundry flood and I don't think he'd complain at all with how Liberty Mutualy handled things.

The glass claims I had with Met Life were handled quickly and accurately too. But saving money and still being with a reputable company is a win win for me.

What does everyone have for deductibles? Our house was at $500 and car was at 250/500. Our glass was 0 with Met Life, but now we will have one. I am thinking, but haven't decided, if I should up my deductibles to $1,000 on both of them.

I've had a $1,000 deductible on my cars forever. My feeling on it is that anything less than $1000 and I'm going to pay myself anyway so that my rates don't go up. If I ever do use the insurance I'm sure that the savings I've had over the last 10+ years have more than made up for the extra $500 I'd pay.

My wife and I have 1000 for both, and in the first 7 months of moving into our house we had two huge claims because of basement flooding crap. Let me tell you, those 2 G's in that amount of time for people who just bought a house hit pretty hard. The thing about insurance is you have to plan for the worst and I don't really think we did with that 1k deductible.
