Jonesie I was thinking the same thing...4 all the badmouthing of mediacom ...the people with cable who are ISU fans have got a real good shake from mediacom...
Except for the games you haven't been able to see at all on Mediacom but have on DirecTV...and the game is still available to DirecTV and Dish subscribers at any rate.
Supposedly if the HD signals are 720p, you can have two simultaneously. ABC/WOI is 720p, so theoretically they could do it. Knowing how good WOI is at getting their **** together, however, I doubt our game will be in HD.
It has nothing to do with the resolution (720p vs 1080i vs 1080p), but with the bitrate. You could actually have a 720p signal with a higher bitrate than a 1080p signal. xxxxp/i is just the resolution.
The bitrate combined with the resolution and codec defines the quality of the picture. Kinda like how exposure in a camera is related to the aperture, ISO level and exposure time.
OTA Digital channels are limited to x amount of bandwidth - roughly 19.3 mbit/s. With the amount they have, they can deliver either a 720p or 1080i channel at a reasonable bitrate (they contain roughly the same amount of information), with a bit of room left over for a lower fidelity channel or two at a reasonable bitrate. You really couldn't cram two 720p or 1080i signals into 19.3 mbit/s and expect either one to look good.
SO, in short, 5.2 will be SD.
