Is he walking on for track as well? Because if he gets a track scholarship and plays football the scholarship is counted as a football scholarship. He could practice as a FB walkon but if he ever gets in a game his scholly counts against their football numbers.

Walking on for track, yes. Two other scholarship football signees (Miquel Dingle, Justin Horne) are walking on for track as well.

As someone who has been watching this track season as a parent the last few years. The Iowa High School track season has been fast on a national scale. The 4x800 1st and 2nd Place teams yesterday are now the 2nd and 3rd fastest in the country. Abu Sama has been running fast on a national level as well as what those two Ankeny boys just did yesterday in the 400 and 200.

A buddy of mine said his kids school broke the old state record in the sprint med and got third. 1A or 2A. Can't remember which class. Seems there was a lot of that even in the smaller classes.

$25k per player for all 85 scholarship guys and for 20 preferred walk-ons (105 total). Starting this summer they're adding the remaining guys on the roster so it'll be $25k each for all 120 guys. Of course they aren't prohibited from signing any additional NIL deals, and many do.

It has made a noticeable difference in the quality of walk-ons coming in, including being able to pull guys like Terrell Tilmon out of the portal into PWO slots when you didn't have a scholarship to give at the moment.

SMU is paying mid $40k base per player, though I believe it's scholarship only.

Piggybacking on track times discussion. There's a guy named Ernest Campbell at Refugio HS in Texas, he might be the fastest 2024 kid in the state, and he's playing 2a football (lowest 11-man classification). It's hysterical to watch him. He's crazy shifty, too.

Yep. Exactly. Walk-ons can apply for the same financial aid as anyone else. The $25k easily covers in-state costs with a big chunk left over. Tack on another $6-7k in Alston funds, which I believe ISU is also providing, and it makes a lot of sense.

Just for cost. Figure $11k got F/S tuition. ( not sure on summer tuition). $500/ month rent and utilities. 6k a year. $80? A week for food. Say 50weeks for $4k. Than a grand for books. That puts us at 21 without summer tuition. 25 won’t leave you much left over.

Nailed it. Pell Grant funds, Academic and/or need-based scholarships, and access to the Cash Nutrition Center. I'm sure ISU has their walk-on athletes eating the same as the scholarship ones do.

This is honestly why I was against NIL because this is just paying players to play and it is semi-pro sports. Doing commercials and signing merchandise deals based on reputation and performance is very different than pay for being on the team. I know it’s where we are at today though and likely won’t change.

It's more than bad coaching at Texas. Their culture is awful and I'm not sure it can be fixed.

Well at least ISU upped my Parent Plus loan amount available last week as the kid got into a more expensive dorm.

Pretty bs that a player can get a full ride, $25k NIL deal and also get a Pell Grant too.
