AD search thread

So CBF is here till 2028?
Be interesting for sure. Have a lame duck AD make the decision to extend his contract or lead the search for a new WBB coach. Is CBF the only one left in the athletics department that Pollard didn't hire?

Thr Drake Relays, easily the most visible athletics event at drake, are an absolute shell of what they used to be. I would sure hope they look elsewhere. The number of steps backwards that event has taken are astonishing
That’s more of a state of track and field in the country. Not a Drake issue.

Leon Costello, Matt Larsen and Justin Sell

I can't imagine you hand the big chair to Hardin when he's never overseen scholarship football.
Hardin is awesome. I’d take him in a heartbeat. I think what he’s done at Drake without scholarship football is a good thing.

Big thanks to Pollard for all he's done. Important hire for our new president to keep our sports momentum going. I lean more towards the academic side, but good sport team bring a lot of free publicity and thoughts towards the school and at least gets kids to think about ISU as a place to attend college.

I doubt it given no contract extension beyond next season and JP's retirement signals to Bill that next season is truly his last. But my guess is that the new AD will be the decision maker for the new WBB HC even though they may not be in place yet. Just like JP did with the CJL hire (i.e. Bruce didn't hire her).

CJL was hired in December 2004.
Bruce was AD until August 2005.
Jamie's hiring announcement was September 2005.

JP hiring a coach to a school 9 months before being announced as the AD at that school, while that school still had an AD under contract, would have been quite the magic act.

I would be shocked if any of the names mentioned by posters gets the job. This isn't 2015 when Iowa State can hire a qualified G5 or FCS Athletic Director. Where fundraising and leadership are the primary criteria.

Iowa State needs an AD that can navigate the new NIL, pay-for-pay environment with vigor. Also, need an AD that can position ISU for further realignment. In the next 5 years the Big10 & SEC could break away. In the next 5 years the Big 10 & SEC will expand to somewhere between 40-48 teams. And David Cook needs to have an AD on board who can position Iowa State to get an SEC or Big 10 invite if expansion ends up between 42-48 schools.

Just not convinced an AD at Drake, NDSU, etc. can get the job done. Would much rather have an Associate AD from an SEC or Big 10 school with relationships in those conferences.

Goodman doesn't realize the new extension Otz signed with ISU and rejecting UNC overtures was primarily due to Cook, not JP.
Goodman doesn’t care. Like everyone else in sports media, they just can’t fathom why someone would want to stay in Ames, Iowa (or Iowa City- even though they wouldn’t admit that as it would offend the mighty B1G).

JP was tagged to be Bruce's replacement well in advance of his ISU hiring due to his prior relationship with GG and Bruce's lame duck status. Bruce had multiple incidents with fans/donors (and his bizzaro $hit on ISU message boards) that was brought up to ISU administration and many were perplexed that he was retained so long. Once Alvarez made the decision to retire as FB HC at Wisconsin and became full-time AD, the dominoes started to fall with Bruce's "resignation" and the JP hire. And given CJL was at Wisconsin, JP was consulted and essentially signed off on the hire. It was no magic act.

The guy from NDST has to be the front runner....Right. He's proven he can win. the mindset has to be the same at NDST as ISU (do more with less) there's an obvious connection with our new Prez.

The SEC/B10 invite ship has sailed. Far more vital to ISU that PCSA gets passed with the B10/SEC anti-expansion provisions or else ISU/CyTown is likely effed. And that possibility may shrink the candidate pool to some extent.

I do agree that the likes of Costello, Larsen, Hardin and Sell may not be the guys for the ISU job at this point. A guy like Jeremiah Dickey from Boise St with extensive B12 experience may be better suited. Dickey was reportedly in the running to get the recent Kentucky opening.
