You could call it a rundown of controversial events from the season... I actually thought that the Drake video was highlights from Drake. It showed most of our missed shots and that's about it.

I'll agree with you on that .....I don't know what the hell that Drake video was.

Any time there is a game day where ISU wins and IA loses, look at the headlines. It will be something to the effect of "ISU sneaks by with late comeback" vs. "IA lets one slip away" The way the headlines completely miss how the actual games play out anymore is daily comedic relief for me.

Actually that would exactly summarize Iowa St's wins in football this year, and most of Iowa's losses.

I know you probably didn't mean just this football season, but I did play out that way.

I remember a few years back getting an unsolicited call from a dbag sports reporter for the Rag to complain about how I was covering their blatant bias at the time. You can probably guess who the reporter is, and he was pretty open about the bias on the phone, though I won't go down the road of saying his name.

He was such an absolute ****; tried to intimidate me into not talking about certain things and worked pretty hard to convince me that he wasn't biased, he just didn't care about ISU.

So hilarious, I'll never forget that fun experience, it was like talking to a 90-year old about the future of journalism and about this great new invention called the internet.

The Gazette is just as bad. Pictures seem to show ISU players in unflattering situations even if they have to report ISU won - the undercurrent of ISU being bad, dirty, seems to be thrown in with regularity. Iowa bad news is usually reported with sympathy for the team, player, and most especially, their fans.

I don't subscribe but see it fairly regularly.

This is the best use of the Register (and it's not even close):

Their pettiness is not limited to sports. They also do a good job on politics, like when they endorsed Romney because Obama would not give them an exclusive, and opinion in general...like Reka Basu who always reads as if she is speaking to the great unwashed (Iowans, that is).

I read the Rag when it's free (like in hotels), but otherwise, nyet.

That said, if you want to read fabulous write-ups about ISU-Drake and UNI-Iowa, you should try the Burlington Hawkeye. John Bohnenkamp is da bomb. No, really.

Why is she even employed? I realize it is a column but the disdain for the majority of the readership is palpable. It can't be that hard to find a minority journalist who is actually good at their job and respectful.

I don't read it either except when at the inlaws and I want to find out what I missed while stuck with over the air TV.

Thanks! That's funny!
I didn't see any of the game so I was excited to see there was video from the Register. I'm not sure what that was, not their best work.

As a kid growing up in an era where newspapers still rocked (1960s) it is sad for me to see what has happened to the Register and Gazette. Everyday at study hall in Manchester I'd be in the library reading both of them and whatever news magazines were there. Back in the day the Register had a fine national reputation. When I return to Iowa for visits these days the paper isn't even really worth purchasing. When I do grab one, it's like "where's the rest of the paper?"

I did that everyday too, back in 2005

Solid idea. But I think the scroll bar should be "things NOT boycotted by CF". I'd imagine that'd be easier on the servers.

I vote CF sponsors the ribbon scoreboard at Hilton for a half. We ought to be able to get through all boycotted entities. Maybe not.

Speaking as one of the few people in this thread that has actually spoken with Randy Peterson and worked around him, I'd just like to say lay off the guy. He is a hard worker and he has been doing this for a lot of years. His perspective is a little bit different than yours. Get over it. It's not just 20-year-olds that read the Register.

Also, I love me some Tommy Birch. Great guy and great journalist. Wish he covered Iowa State more.

I live in out of state now so I don't see any of the physical copies of any of the Iowa papers anymore. But following the Clones from afar, whenever I'm searching the internet for stories about the Cyclones the bulk of the best information is coming from the register. Granted Hines is definitely putting the Trib up there more and more in recent years.

Randy Peterson wrote a season preview for the Clones and couldn't even remember all of the guys on the roster. He left several off of his recap of the roster. That is not having a different perspective... that is being bad at what you do for a living.
