What about somebody like Brent Vigen, the current Associate head coach and offensive CO at Wyoming. Young man with bright future.

Don't think so. Unless I'm unaware of his Mt Union, and/or Toledo connection.

Lets be careful not to condemn Kendall Briles for the sins of his dad. He had a good year at FAU and has strong ties to Texas recruiting. I doubt we could get him given he was hired to be the OC at Houston.

If CMC wanted to go "outside the family" two good options might be Junior Adams (strong performance as an OC at Western Kentucky with a potential new recruiting base in the Northwest) or Travis Trickett (good performance as OC at Georgia State with ties to the Big 12, Alabama and Florda State).

A Briles is a Briles is a Briles

Do we have any reason to believe Campbell would want to change gears going into year three and call the plays? Certainly he's capable, but I think this would represent a more substantial change to gameday approach and management than people are giving credit for. And it's not as if Campbell wouldn't have a short list already for all the what-if scenarios. Every good manager does.
CMC could easily call the plays. He is HEAVILY involved with the offense already. Just depends how things shake out.

Kendall was involved as well.

What about Gasser? I'm not saying thats the answer or my take. I just didn't know if anyone heard that or why not. Haven't seen his name.

Seems kind of a big jump to from grad assistant to offensive line coach. Seems more likely that they would move TE coach to OL coach and move the GA to TE coach. Or just hire outside for OL coach.

Jeff Myers has been in Campbell’s system for a long time as a player and as a GA. You need to look at Matt Campbell’s resume.

I would guess we get a new o line coach, another assistant for the extra position the NCAA made available and Campbell will run the offense until a suitable replacement is found. Way too late in the game to be learning all new terminology. If there is no promotion from the inside then I don't expect it to be anyone other than Matt Campbell.

Yeah, I know that. It is still a huge jump to be given that responsibility from GA to OL coach.

FWIW, Myers' Twitter Bio says "Assistant Offensive Line Coach" at ISU. Not sure how long it's been like that, but from the looks of it, they were grooming him for the OL coach role in case there was opening. Presumably, Manning had already communicated with Campbell from the beginning that his career goals were in the NFL per Campbell's quote in the DMR below. An aspect of good leadership is to have a succession strategy, so it seems like maybe they had a plan in place.

A really good situation for him and I’m really, really happy and proud of him, to be honest with you,” Campbell told the Register. “I think it’s a really good opportunity for him. All of us have different goals and aspirations, and one of the neat things, for him, is that this was one of his goals and aspirations. And the fact that he was able to do it through the success we’ve been able to have here... That’s awesome — and awesome to our program.

Yeah, that could be true.

I like the idea of Campbell taking on play calling role. This is per FootballScoop.com

Iowa State: With Tom Manning heading to the Colts, source tells FootballScoop Iowa State is expecting to promote offensive grad assistant Jeff Myers to offensive line coach. We expect Matt Campbell to call the offense.

Football Scoop looks accurate. Not sure if he was before but Tyson Veldt is listed as the Assistant Coach. In this scenario CMC is Head Coach and OC. Veldt absorbs some administrative duties of the HC. Golesh may get a few chances to show he is ready for Offensive Coordinator next year by calling some plays or filling in for CMC in an OC capacity as needed.

Under the above scenario if I were CMC I would not get or name a new OC this year (tool late to install a new scheme with Spring practice around the corner). Instead I would get either a) a mid major position coach that has shown an ability to develop more than their share of NFL talent at a position that CMC feels we struggle recruiting or b) a mid-major/HS coach that has strong recruiting connections (particularly if Golesh has a decent chance to move to OC next year assuming that recruiting coordinator and OC will be too much to handle).

CMC can put out feelers for other OCs over the course of the year and make a switch at the end of next year if he feels it is warranted.

That would be new since Ayeni's departure; Ayeni had the Associate Head Coach title in addition to the RB coach.

He was a GA for 3 years. And was a team captain and 3 or 4 year starter at Toledo in Campbell’s system. He is ready to be a full time position coach. Probably a talented young coach. Much better than bringing in a new guy like CPR did with Klenakis that was like fitting a round peg in a square hole.

There is no way in haiti-s [social police - don't care] that CMC would ever let anyone change terminology, in my humble opinion.
