When the time comes to move to Ankeny or build here, look me up and I will be happy to help. I am from Ames originally but have lived in Ankeny since 2007. As a real estate agent I could live anywhere in the metro but chose Ankeny over everywhere else. That should say something. It is a great town and an easy drive to anything else you are wanting. Very easy drive to Ames if you go up to games.

I lived in Ankeny for 8 years and now in West Des Moines (between Valley West and Jordan Creek) for 5. I don't have kids so I can't judge that.

I loved Ankeny. I really wasn't interested in moving. But I will say that now that I am gone and Ankeny has continued to grow at a crazy rate, it drives me crazy when I am up there. It's grown too fast for the infrastructure (i.e. roads, etc). It seems like it takes forever to get anywhere in that town and going to some stores and restaurants is crazy frustrating.

I wouldn't be opposed to going back to Ankeny some day, but I'm surprised at how much I enjoy West Des Moines.

Deep thread pull here..

Is this the first time someone at DRA has publicly confirmed they are looking at building a new 18 or 36-hole golf course in Ankeny, off 36th street? As a golfer, the metro could really use another 18 for when Beaver Creek is re-developed to housing and commercial uses

I had heard about it over a year ago, maybe this is the first public notice.

From source:
Albaugh is looking at building two 18-hole courses South of Ankeny Costco.

I seriously question whether there is even room for ONE 18-hole course south of Costco. The lay of the land MIGHT allow an executive course of interest. The terrain NE of Costco is certainly NOT interesting enough for a challenging course. Across I-35 from Otter Creek I suppose would be doable.

Has Beaver Creek been sold?

Don't forget Otter Creek, the only truly public course of the bunch.

Yeah I was just naming the private courses. Not technically considered Ankeny but Woodland Hills is pretty close as well.

I just have a feeling they're going to make this another private course. Does Albaugh have any ownership in Briarwood?

See post #67. We're talking Ankeny here.

Ah, misunderstood. CycloneDaddy asked you if Beaver Creek had been sold, and the initial bump post from today (post #67) ended with "As a golfer, the metro could really use another 18 for when Beaver Creek is re-developed to housing and commercial uses"

Yeah, and he edited his question after I answered, so we got going in a circle. Sorry for the confusion.
