I hope he don’t leave anytime soon but history says he leaves . Even the two most high profile Cyclones Hoiberg and Cael left to take other jobs. So while I appreciate people saying he ain’t going anywhere, my Cyclone radar says he is gone if another good opportunity comes around

Cael left right before realignment. We didn’t have the big media deal we do now, so if he’d held out a little longer maybe things would have been different. Maybe schools like Nebraska and Mizzou would still be here too. Fred loved and I believe still loves Iowa State, but coaching in the NBA was his dream job. I think coaching here was also a dream, but NBA was the ultimate goal.

We have 45k of season tickets I believe. That includes normal tickets, student tickets, and jr cyclone club.

True but I think we averaged around 54,000 last year per game, season ticket sells should increase after the season we had, and with what we have coming back. If need be, bump up single game tickets another $5 to 10 bucks per game.

The money will be there if we need to jump his salary, now 8 to 9 million would be a stretch, but ISU could easily do $6 to 7 million in salary.

Always add about 50% for assistants to what ever you pay the HC. Generally when you bump the HC 1 MM the assistants seem to get 500k more.

A good football team will increase revenues to the AD. From merch, game day ticket sales, concessions, etc. may more than pay for another Campbell raise. Increasing ticket prices to meet demand is another option.

I hope he don’t leave anytime soon but history says he leaves

What history is that?

The last football coach to leave ISU after having success was Earle Bruce, over 40 years ago. A completely different world. All signs are that Rhoads or McCarney would have stayed here a long time had we let them- they had opportunities they didn't jump for. Even at other schools, its pretty rare for a P5 coach to jump to another P5 school (i think only 6-7 P5 head coaches directly jumped from one to another)

Hoiberg is a bad example. Hoiberg always wanted to coach at the highest level of his sport. That's not something any college program could have offered him.

I dont think any of us, or at least most of us, can truly know what's in campbell's head, but his motivations seem different than hoiberg. He seems much more like a college coach, and truly seems to enjoy his role as a teacher\leader of young men. And when comparing to other college options, there are a lot of things about the ISU job that could make it a better long-term fit for him than a jump to a blue blood would. They can offer more top-line money, but with a bunch of drawbacks, and Campbell has shown that pure money isn't all what he's about.

What's wild....and sorry to bring this into this thread.....was we learned a lot about this stuff with Hoiberg...meaning, nothing is for sure or as it may seem. The fact he listened to U of Minn in like year 2 is nuts....we all would have thought this was the ideal place, we took a risk on him, etc.

But, I truly think CMC is different than most.
Hoiberg always had a foot out the door. He made that clear from the start. Always said his dream was to coach in the NBA. He was with the timberwolves, so U of M may have allowed his family to reconnect with friends while advancing towards his ultimate goal. Totally different.

Purely anecdotal and just one person, but I was talking to a higher up before a conference call started at work. He’s a Michigan grad and a donor. I jokingly said, yeah, there’s rumors your school might go after my school’s coach if they get rid of Harbaugh. He said Campbell is a good coach, but he and his friends he talks with that are donors still like Harbaugh and think the price tag too buy him out right now isn’t worth what they’d get in return with a coaching change. Said if Harbaugh decides to leave on his own, no one would hold him back, but there isn’t much of an appetite (amongst his group of friends at least) to pay for a buyout.

Again, PURELY anecdotal.

Edit: he also specifically talked about Campbell not being a Michigan Man.

I remember when there was a lot of chatter on this message board about how Hoiberg was gonna be here for life and bring ISU national championships. Then when he made a move that pretty much anyone with career ambition would make he got crucified. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the same people talking about how “different” Campbell is to get real nasty when Campbell goes to the Browns or wherever.

Fact is NOBODY knows what Campbell is thinking or what other jobs may tempt him. Saying he’ll never leave is wishful thinking that may end up in extreme butt hurt in a few years.

the most important thing Campbell is doing now is changing the culture and national perception of ISU football. If he ever does leave, other quality coaches and players are going to want to come here because he’s made us a winner.

Nobody knows what Campbell will do, but anyone who thought Fred would stay wasn't listening to Fred. His constant flirting with other jobs really hurt his last few years of recruiting.

Bingo. Posters who claim they "know" for sure Campbell won't leave are just hilarious.

People thinking Fred would be here forever were in complete denial of the obvious. Compare the leaks about the U of Minn job and everybody that wasn't in complete denial knew once an NBA team offered he was probably gone.

I don't think any of us know anything about Campbell, but I think Fred is not a great comparison, comparing alone the interviews MC has turned down.

Based on all factors my guess is Campbell would be wanting to make one move while his kids are in school, and that he probably wants to get to the NFL. As we see now, you sure as hell don't need to coach at a blueblood to jump to the NFL, despite what talking heads stuck in 1998 say. So, my best guess is Campbell sticks around at ISU a few more years until an NFL situation that suits him offers.

I also think UM gives Harbaugh next year, albeit with a short leash. Same goes for PSU and Franklin.

It is being reported that if South Carolina hires Shane Beamer as their HC, Jon Heacock is his target to be DC.

Not sure why Heacock would leave for South Carolina. Is there a connection between the two? Otherwise, why go to SC where it's very likely the coach won't be there more than 3-4 years anyways?

From someone who was there here's the different world. When Earle Bruce was offered the Ohio State job our AD went into Earl's office and helped him pack. Jamie will go into the office of CMC and unpack the boxes. :)

Lou McCullough didn't even try to keep Earle and Jamie will move heaven and earth. Truly a different world.

It's still north of Iowa and winters are longer and colder.

What's pretty sad is how untrue your statement is. Not being further north, but Detroit is actually warmer than Des Moines in the winter.
