So he isnt coming coming home? Is he even visiting? I could find 10 things to put the couple thousands of dollars towards at ISU instead of these meaningless billboards.

No, I think it has everything to do with the Hawkeyes. It screams "little brother" to me. I'm not a fan of advertising the little brother syndrome. I don't really care that much but since there's a thread...

Completely agree.

Thats just a sample size of the reaction from the average Hawk fan.
Disagree. That's a sample of the fanatical, lunatic Hawk fan. The average Hawk fan (or college football fan) will have no idea who 'Bob' is.

Seems kind of silly to me. Why don't we spend money promoting our kick-***** in-state enrollment, and that this is truly a "Cyclone State" in more ways than one?

Or the fact that we won every major sport against them last year. Wrestling doesn't count.

I disagree. Iowa City is actually a pretty cool town. Hate on the Hawks and their fans all you want, but Iowa City isn't a bad place.

Except for all the road construction. Granted IC has been hit with some big disasters the last 10 years, but they really know how to jam things up with their construction.

Although I agree that this billboards subject matter could be better... what's with people being so against it? So what if it is a little poke at the Hawkeyes and UNI? For heavens sake, what's the point of having a rivalry if you don't poke at each other a little bit?

Besides, its not like the billboard specifically addresses the hawkeyes anyways... it so happens he's from there, and with it being a bit more of a Hawkeye area, you get to irritate some people just by putting up a huge sign with the ISU logo on it. its just some fun, what's the harm?

Precisely how I see it. From a marketing standpoint, one of the greatest things you can do is create non-criminal controversy which will spark a ton of debate.

Because that would be the university's job, not the AD's. And because creating new creepy whisper ads takes up a lot of time.

There are Cyclones over in eastern iowa that need so see some love and effort from Ames sent their way.

Lets all the folks over there in hawkeye land know they aren't the only school in the state. Everyone in Central IA does not realize how little respect the clones get out east.

The content could have been better but I think the idea is a nobel one

Thank god I'm not the only one that thinks those whisper adds are creepy. I cringe every time I watch a big ISU event on TV, and the other school shows some big grandiose inspirational ad on their university, and then ISU follows up with some hipster whispering in a corner about a children's book or something. Free tip to the new ISU pres: dump the ad agency.

Think about who the target market is for those ads. Hipster and difirentitation are big with young people. "why have generic when i can have somthing diffrent"

The school has become the biggest in the state while working those ads so they must be better than you think.

Yeah they are weird, but people remember them and thats the point. If a commercial sticks with you it was money well spent.
