YES!

My favorite is Louis Garnaue as they seem like the best fabric...and great for cycling-plus have a compression component. LG runs a bit smaller than other brands so if you are a medium go with large etc.

Good stuff jmb.

Are there any triathlons (spring distance ones preferably) in Iowa later in the summer? I was planning on doing the pigman in june, but I hurt my knee over spring break during crew spring training and I just got done with physical therapy to fix that a couple weeks ago so I'm working on getting back in shape from that, which kind of killed any plan of doing the pigman. Anyone know of anything in late July/early August?

http://fitnesssports.com has a lot of local running and tri events. I'm targetting the Hickory Grove Tri which is towards the end of August (formally known as the Cy-Man).

Not a triathlete myself, but my son-in-law won the HyVee amateur race last year. It is a really cool event and I admire your effort to train for the race. My son-in-law will be running as a professional in the elite race this summer. Hope you have fun and good luck in the race!

Your son-in-law narrowly beat a guy that I formerly coached at Ames High. Sounds like a cool event.

It is a really cool event. If you get a chance, you need to come and watch them this summer. It will be worth your time!

I agree about the some of the other swimming advice....my advice is to practice swimming before hand when time allows just before the 1st heat, swim out far enough (past first or 2nd buoy) to get comfortable w/ the water temp, visibility, breathing, tightness of wetsuit, check goggles, etc...get any panicky feelings out....I do this to prevent the air starvation feeling during the race. Take long and amble breaths as needed the first 1/4 to 1/2 mile, avoid racing. I hang back when the heat starts to run into the water, let them go to avoid the thrashing. The wetsuit is worthwhile investment, if legal in the race to help w/ flotation.....swimming isn't my best event. I tend to make up the time in bike and run.

I like to do the whole tri event the weekend before for practice, both endurance and transitions, tech issues.....if possible on the same course, which will be tough w/ this one.

I like the TYR stuff.

Make sure your bike tubes are newer, lower enough miles.....sucks getting flat on the biking course

I like Copper Creek, Iowa Games, Cornman (tough hilly run in hot July), Big Creek. I don't like the new Big Creek as much with the dual lap running part, I prefer out and back course.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice. It is good to know that there are some other cyclones into tri's. I wish we could write our alias on our swim caps or something so I could point some of you out.

Good luck to all who are participating in tri's this summer.
