It's outdated because it's just fireworks. If your so worried about safety then you need to talk to your children about firework safety and how to use them correctly.

Nice answer. So firework safety and education has advanced enough through time to where fireworks should be legal?
What about the annoyances that come with fireworks? Have those lessened?
Most cities have noise ordinances that will be broken if fireworks become legal. Do cities now have more resources to respond to noise complaints then they have in the past?

My personal opinion. I don't see it passing. If it does I see it passing to get a new tax revenue stream to support education funding.

To which you'd see next to no push back. That would be a great idea.

It doesn't matter if fireworks are legal or not. Kids are still going to get them and shoot them off. It's the same thing with alcohol and drugs.

Obviously I don't have the plans for those questions. If fireworks were to go legal I'm sure the state would have people to put those plans into place so you need to just relax. It's just fireworks.

No the State would not have people in place to plan for those things...it would be passed down to the local level to figure out, which is why if this passes, they are just going to make cities turn around and ban them, which makes this bill a waste of time and money. I get its just fireworks, but its not as easy as that. I've never found it to be a huge pain in the *** to have to drive to Missouri or Wisconsin in the rare occasion I want some fireworks. To me, there I'd rather just keep things the way they are rather then open it up to more widespread use and sales of fireworks. Its fine the way it is right now, IMO.

Well luckily this isn't all about you and your dog. If the majority of Iowans want legal fireworks and the government agrees then that's the way it should be

I really don't give two ***** what Iowa does about it. I live in a state where they are legal. But as the other posters have pointed out, they just end up banned at the city level, as well they should be in more populated areas. In smaller towns or rural areas, knock yourself out.

I guess I don't care either way but you should need a permit for the big stuff. I've had my fun when I was younger but wouldnt recommend the dumb things i've done. I was at the Charles city 4th where a display fell over so even the "responsible" shows can go wrong

I don't remember if it was here or not but I remember last time someone suggested common sense rules for fireworks. During most of the year you couldn't shoot them off after like 10 and around the 4th you could shoot them till 12 or something.

I understand that people don't want to be constantly bothered but I've only been bothered once and that was when the guy across the street set off a ton at once at like 3 in the morning. That doesn't mean that everyone is an *** when they shoot them off. If people work together they can compromise so that everyone can be happy.

I lived in a city in Kansas where fireworks were essentially legal .. they had a very weak city ordinance that wasn't enforceable and everyone ignored. Every year, things started going off 3 weeks before July 4th, and for a couple weeks after. So a solid month of fireworks, almost every single night. So this idea that it's just for one night or weekend is a complete crock.

Also, one of my buddies was a fireman, and part of his job was to monitor things on their engine, he said people would fire bottle rockets right at them, daring them to do anything about it.

I also saw unsupervised kids, some no older than 6, working the punk to light firecrackers. Anyone who thinks this is a great idea needs to think again.

Noise is a horrible excuse for banning them. We should ban all Harleys as well then because they're a TON more annoying.

Apples to oranges. 90% of Harley's make their noise when the sun is out. 90% of fireworks make their noise at night. Most cities have noise ordinances prohibiting loud noises at night while allowing them during the day. Fireworks make enforcing those laws more difficult then Harley's.
