Are we cautiously optimistic or all in?

I told family before the season started that if TJ can get to .500 his first year that would be something. I think .500 at this point would be a disappointment. This kind of start after last season is just unbelievable.

Well since I’ve personally been wanting TJ back for 2-3 years now. I’m all in, but also know some bumps along the way will happen. What I do know is him and his staff are all good coaches. The coaching staffs energy and attitude is obviously infectious.
I wanted TJ when we hired Prohm, so I am way past all in.

Im all in, but that doesnt mean i think they will win 30 games.

I thought they were going to be abt .500 this year before the season started. So i was on the optimistic side of this board already.

Now? Prob 20 wins. With 2 role players back, 6 transfers and a freshman.

Let me TJ COACH!!

Let's be honest, we did not beat a team tonight. We beat a collection of 1on1 all atars that likely don't know each other's names (or care to).

However, they were fairly talented and we slowly crushed the life out of them. It still makes me smile.

Memphis reminds me of recent kentucky teams. All nba guys but zero chemistry and very beatable early. This will look like a great win come march.

Whats really remarkable, is TJ has the same problem w new guys and no chemistry, but solved it. These guys already play pretty well together - not perfect but much better than i expected.

All I know is if they keep playing the game of basketball like this I will be ecstatic and tune in every game regardless of the record because the way they played the game of basketball in Brooklyn is what it’s supposed to look like. It’s just damn fun to watch fundamental basketball and players playing with heart.

Watching other games today with Coleman-Lands and Bolton on other teams. Suddenly I'm happy they decided to leave. I couldn't see either of them working in this system. I hope them all sorts of success, but the JCL trade for Enaruna seems like a win for us.

This ^^^ Enaruna is an X Factor for the Cyclones. Last night was the first time I’ve seen him in extended action and wow does he have a high ceiling: great length and athleticism, great feet, soft touch around the riim, ability to play multiple positions….he could be a match up nightmare for a lot of teams.

Combined with the 3 headed backcourt monster of Hunter-Kalscheur-Brockington, a consistent scoring threat in Enaruna at the 2 through 4 spots would be a difference maker .

If he can continue to mature his game and consistently get close to his potential through conference season, that could cause me to revise my expectations up to sniff the post-season.

Good things happen when you play hard.

The mistakes being made are being made at 100 miles an hour and you live with that every single time.

League play is a different beast but I'm all in.

I've been all in on TJ since day 1. A couple things though, we had a very good offensive showing in New York but I'm not convinced we will be that great of an offense but we may not need to be.

We'll probably see some games like the Alabama State game where shots just aren't falling against good teams and we'll get beat. Another thing is our free throw shooting appears to be an issue at this point, would really like to see rhat improve.

Other than that I'd really like to see how we handle Iowa and Creighton first before getting too excited. They are both similar in that they usually have elite offenses but don't play a lick of defense.

the pace and intensity of last night felt just as high as the toughest KU/WVU games of the past

No idea what our final record will be, but they are playing really well at this juncture. We’ll see if they can keep it up over the season and avoid injuries. Regardless I think our coaching staff has put together a good team and one that plays with purpose on both ends.

I’ve been cautiously optimistic coming into this year and so far every game this year but with how hard this team plays and how much havoc they cause defensively I think tj has got Iowa state basketball back

I'm just trying to tamper my delusions - only been two games I've been able to watch, and my expectations were rock bottom. Now I gotta be careful to not put too much TJ sugar in my CoolAid.

I don’t see how “all in” and “cautiously optimistic” are mutually exclusive. I’m definitely both. The BigXII is really really good this year, I still think the bubble would be a huge achievement.

Hunter is the real deal - it’s amazing how much of a leader he is - he sets the tone on both ends.

I thought the best stretch of the second half came when they played the three guards with Enaruna and Kunc and switched everything. They are long and athletic enough to make it work.

I also enjoyed a very intense TJ yelling “ONE MORE STOP” during Memphis’ last possession (up 22 with 30 seconds left)

I'm sorry but this phrase has become such a crutch, and in my opinion, a cop-out. One is either optimistic or not. Other crutches include, "having said that," and "don't get me wrong." I'm not an English teacher and only an adequate writer, but I think we write lazily when use these phrases.

I also get jazzed when I see, "could care less." The correct use is "couldn't care less."

I kept hearing Fran and co talk about Memphis’ defense and yeah it’s stifling but then i would look at the score and would say ok but we have 70 points against this AMAZING defense and we are supposed to be limited offensively.

yeah, there will definitely be games this year where our shots don’t fall like they did vs Memphis and we lose, but I’m increasingly convinced the defensive tenacity will keep us in the game. Just gotta stay out of foul and injury trouble—those will be the most important things this year I think.
